https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13830204Mike Zaneski vocal and production Star Lit Night in Tralee V Day slowly faded away no matter your beauty is here to stay sitting out on the porch looking up at the stars Hey is that Venus, is that Mars? C On a star lit night in Tralee I've got you and the heavens with me Wish we could stay like this forever On this star lit Tralee night V Lying here close to you that secret smile you do Feels so perfect Hope it'll always be tonight, tomorrow for eternity Music B Captive audience of a million stars Your voice sweet as a angels harp A melody that lifts me high, feel like i want to fly Among those stars C I wrote a lyric called A star spangled night in Dixie about 4 years ago which the late Barry Butler composed a melody.for. Just before Barry passed away i wanted to do a further version changing the title, basically a complete rewrite for it to be targetted at the Irish market. Barry by this time was to ill so i asked Mike Zaneski to do the new song using Barry's melody which he agreed. The new version is sung and produced by Mike. Lyric by me Music Barry Butler and dedicated to him.

Nice production Travis, and I hope that Barry enjoys the song, but I don't understand what Tralee or indeed Ireland has to do with it. Apart from the name Tralee there are no other Irish connections. Maybe though that's a good thing. You could just insert whatever town you wanted into the space e.g. "On this starlit Barnsley night".

Exactly Vic. Barnley was stongly considered but thought as too exotic. Hmmm Starlit Barnsley Night tempting by gum

I never "knew" Barry but always enjoyed his posts. I was touched by this song. Anyone and everyone can place a lost loved one in the scenario done so beautifully in this piece (as I did while listening). My gratitude to you and all involved in this creation.

Well the Irish instrumentation gives it an IRELAND feel which covers the lack of info in the lyric. I've seen/heard songs like this that name a place but theres nothing written that says where it is.
Travis I think when somebody offers you some tips or insight you shouldnt blow it off, Vic had a valid point.
it may say Ireland in the music, but not a difference between Tralee or Dublin or Cork.
You know where it would matter? If the song was to be covered or recorded by another artist. Without the instrumentation its a song that could be about anywhere on the planet.
Just a thought

PS, the song "Starting Today" which played after this one I thought was really good. Great hook like that guys voice too, a bit like Van Morrison.
But i also thought the key got too high for his voice towards the end, he was struggling to reach it

Hi Fdemetrio Thanks for your feedback. I never dismiss Vic's thoughts on my songs on the contrary value his and all feedback . Vic is a pal my reply was innocent banter . Yes it could be any of those places i agree. But it's a simple love song moreover a tribute which is not perfect but heartfelt. Regards Travis

Hi Travis:
Sorry to be late but I just returned home. Several questions arose as I read your introductory statement and then listened. I enjoyed this song very much.
First, as I understand it, the original title was "A Star Spangled Night in Dixie." Did you decide to change the song's "location" to Ireland because of the ridiculous garbage being slung about so recklessly by the American Press about "Dixie?" Southern cities are abandoning their heritage because of the term "racist. Our beloved Robert E. Lee's Statue was removed in the dead of night in Dallas and the Citizens who gave a damn were not given a chance to even mount a defense against such a miscarriage of historical justice.
Second: The singer is not Barry Butler and I wonder if the original "Dixie" CD or Tape exists?
Third: To my ears, the singer we hear on the Irish version is none other than Michael Zaneski... or am I wrong?
None of this "takes away" from what I consider to be a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing... and feel free to reply via private channels to keep this from becoming an issue like several we have witnessed recently here at JPF. My purpose is not to divide but to simply understand the history of the song and a desire to hear Barry's version. He was often misunderstood, wore his heart on his sleeve and was a talented guy... and, lest I forget, you obviously have a way with lyrics, my friend.
Thanks, ----Dave

Hi Dave Always good to hear from you and i'll answer your questions certainly.. Just before BB passed away i tried to contact him but i didn't realise how poorly he'd become. I had the idea of trying a new lyric aimed at the Easy Listening Irish market which is dominated by guys like Daniel O'Donnell who has a big following, i also have his agents details and have got to know someone in that office quite well, which is a foot on the ladder. So hence the change of title. Nothing connected with issues in the south ever came into this move. And i do have the original song and i'll post the link. I used Barry's original melody which was good and appears to have been received quite well on here when posted on the MP3 forum initially so just a few lyric changes. Yes It's Mike Zaneski. His voice and production. It's sad that political issues and snide remarks from some members are casually made on our forum and have become the norm now it seems. There's some great guys on here however including yourself who just want music! All the best Dave and thanks for your comments which i hope i've addressed. I will send a link under this reply on another page. John

Hi Travis:
Welcome back... Mr. Vacation/Holiday Man! Wow, do you know how to travel!
Just listened to that familiar voice of Barry and really enjoyed the song and the idea behind it. Barry was singing just one "notch" too low for his comfort range IMHO but he pulled it off. Thanks ever so much for sharing that with me/us... here at JPF.
On to the current song... I think Mike continues to "up his game" in the vocal and arranging departments. You don't need improvement... just a lucky break.
Now, get back to work while the rest of us take that trip to Machu Picchu or wherever we need to go to get our batteries re-charged. Great to have you back.
----Dave

Two things happened today. SOURCE RADIO a Cornish radio station had this on their playlist but the show over ran so it gets a slot next week. Secondly the shows presenter who is also the A&R at Aadvark Records and Publishing after a few months deciding are having talks with me early next week regarding a publishing deal I write mainly with musicians but i do have about 6 self pened tracks to offer, and maybe a collab or two Travis

Travis,
First off, what a nice tribute to Barry—and it was cool hearing his voice on the original “Star Spangled” version. Mike’s production and vocal are, as usual, pretty stellar. So, all in all, really liked what I heard.
Second, congrats on the radio play, but much more so on the potential publishing deal opportunity. That’s quite awesome and I hope all that goes well for you! Keep us posted . . . always good to see one of our own get a leg up!
All the best, as always,
Deej
