From what I’ve been reading, the majority of recyclables end up in a landfill anyway. There’s only two kinds of plastic that actually end up recycled. It appears my car emissions coming and going from the recycle center is far more hazardous to the Planet. Tidbit... It cost $4,000 dollars to recycle one ton of plastic bags, which are then sold for $32. I’ll have to do more studying, but from what I’ve read already, I won’t be making the trip to the recycle center any longer. Bummer… John

Well, We have a recycling service. The county has the service. We are provided a Re-Cycle can they pick up every two weeks with huge trucks. We got a list of things that they take. Plastic bottles have a triangle usually on the bottom of things that are recyclable. We also have a weekly garbage service that is paid for in the property taxes.

They only have that service inside the borough. We're outside on our own. Bummer... John

Being in a small, semi-remote community... re-cycling is not yet being offered as an option here in West Mayberry. John, that processing cost versus the selling price of the final product sounds strange. I'm wondering if the process is being managed by politicians or beaur-o-crats?
Plastic (at least most types) does not degrade rapidly and clogs the landfills for decades, even longer. The worst case scenario seems to happen in the mid-southern Pacific where there are "islands" of plastic bottles and items, including flip-flops afloat... and we are told these "rafts" are growing in size rapidly.
I'm hoping Elon Musk will assign a team of his "whiz-kid scientists" to find a practical way to solve the problem. Our Government (and any other political body) would make a mess of things. Normally, I'm not much of a "tree hugger" but recycling... if done properly... can really be a good thing.
Off topic completely... I'm so grateful those Thai Soccer Kids were rescued. Sad about the diver who ran out of oxygen... but he died for a good cause.

And one of our recycle centers is closing. Why? Here's their explanation:
MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TWP., Pa. - A recycling center in Monroe County will soon be closed. The Monroe County Waste Authority announced it is consolidating recycling locations in the county and will close the drop-off location in Middle Smithfield Township. Officials said it will close within the next 30 days. The Waste Authority said increasing contamination from illegal dumping at the sites and the import bans imposed by China have forced the consolidation. The authority will continue maintaining other recycling drop-off locations around the county.

The City of Houston quick taking glass in the recycle bins months ago. Seems pointless to recycle everything but glass. As you point out, apparently it's about the cost.
What are they gonna ever do about that garbage dump in the Pacific.

I suspect that it is simply costing the city too much to be green.

We had a recycle bin placed in our development several years ago. It was great to have one close to home (walking distance). Then people started throwing garbage and non-recyclables into it. They got rid of it because of this.

"It cost $4,000 dollars to recycle one ton of plastic bags, which are then sold for $32"I knew it was only a matter of time. Our recycle Centers are no longer accepting plastic bags. I have an ill feeling this will eventually be the route for all recycling. Sad... John
