The peace train (derailed) copyright©2005 by Sherin Hartley chorus How can you stop the peace train? Been rollin' for so long. How can you stop the peace train in a place where it belongs. vs1 It leaped and hopped 'cross the moon shadow to feed the little ones. 'Lotta love to the children of this world and now it can't come home. vs2 It's a wild, wild world indeed when we no longer see the love it brought to all the world so we could all be free. repeat chorus bridge So, now it's gone and changed it's name for another way to live. They stopped the train dead in it's tracks, which we should still forgive. repeat chorus ------------------ "If someone found a cure for apathy, no one would care" http://www.freewebs.com/mikalspike

Sherin, I just ordered Cat Stevens Greatest Hits from Amazon...so this caught my eye. You do a great job of weaving his titles and lyrics into the song--very clever and well executed. Could there be copywrite problems? I think it's hard to find the line between being too cryptic and too obvious. For me, it's so clear who we are talking about (it's Cat Stevens, right? ) that it seems silly to speak in metaphors and refer to the "peace train" as "it" and not "he." On the other hand it's an art to have people understand without ever having to name it. I would just suggest exploring how much and how little you reveal about your subject. I'm not sure where the line is, but it would be an intesting excercise. Two questions/commetns: This stanza: "the love it brought to all the world so we could all be free." I can't think of what Stevens might have done to make me free. IS there something specific he did? And the last line "which we should still forgive" The "which" seems a little clunky--maybe something like "why can't we just forgive." It's food for thought anyway. Keep refining it--it's a nice song.

Hey Emma, Thanks for the input. No, I don't think there would be any copyright problems, You can't copyright a title and the lines would have to be complete to be an infringement. Besides, I really don't think Yusef would mind. Peace, Sherin ------------------ "If someone found a cure for apathy, no one would care" http://www.freewebs.com/mikalspike
