Hi! Travis David asked if I could demo his lyric for a donation to JPF and I was happy to do this for such a good lyric and cause. Travis has a great imagination for a lyric. He asked if I could think of "The Pogues" for a style. Well I did my best. Arranged and adjusted here it is and thank you for the donation. https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/always-meant-to-behttp://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13477804Always meant to be? ©2016 Lyrics John Vaughan, Music Vic Arnold v Honky Tonk Woman plays on the jukebox Over and over in so many bars. In how many places, have I sat and watched clocks and drunken men singing to their air guitars? v My friends all grew richer, but I never changed much Now I'm reminiscing deep into my past Women they came but never kept in touch I'm alone with my cell phone ... such a sad ass CH. Was it always meant to be that this was destined to happen to me? I should have spent more time away from the cheap wine and much more in good company. v Old songs have ways of reaching for your soul, sometimes to carry me where the sun shines. Other times encouraging my tears to freefall when they sing of a guy who got left behind v We were bankers, soldiers, teachers and poets. There were some of us who never made it at all. Aren't there always regrets and those you'll not forget? And some who just pissed their whole life up a wall. Inst. b I have to stop living life in the past, think about tomorrow but live for today. Those places where yesterday forever lasts, get 'em out of my mind, that there I'd like to stay CH.

I love this song Travis and Vic did it proud. Also the added bonus that it was done for a good cause, and I can tell that Vic went the extra mile

Arnold and Vaughan... those two crazy good Welshmen are "at it again" with a Winner of a song. It's almost like a "Sea Chanty" but much more lively with Travis' greatly crafted words and Vic's production and vocal. It could easily be a "crossover" song and I'll be listening for it on a Texas Radio Station soon!
Enjoyed, you two! ----Dave

Hey Dave. Good Welshmen come in twos. Any more could be a problem. Thanks for the comment, now I'm off to Texas.

Hi Vic and Travis, My main concern reading the lyric was vocal phrasing, as some of the lines didn't sing just by reading them, but I needn't have worried as Vic..you're a master of vocal phrasing and punch up all the right words and the phrasing flows (seemingly) effortlessly.. The mid-tempo 6/8 12/8 feel really works to give that slightly aggressive feel associated with The Pogues, and the arrangement overall is really nice. Travis, this is one of your best lyrics. I imagine a blue collar Irishman sitting alone at a bar, he's at a crossroads, and this could be his inner monologue or maybe he's talking to the bartender...at any rate it's a fantastic lyric and Vic did right by it. Mike

Hey guys!
I liked the feel of this song and loved the lyrics. Kind of feels like a train chugging along at a nice pace. Vic you did well with getting the prosody down without having to change the lyrics--not always easy. I think the time sig and pace helped in this challenge. Any sugs from steady........well I think the guitar solo could be a little more dynamic, or maybe utilize the accordion there? Guitar just feels a little thin or lonely at solo--I'd like hearing the solo feel more climactic with a sort of crescendo "feel" for more drama and fullness to complement the vibe. That's it, I love everything else, nice vocals to Vic!

Thanks for your comments Mike. The Lyric was adapted by Vic and in the process found we needed an extra verse or bridge maybe. The last verse was then added but probably put a stop on chances of airplay by its last line lol I requested a Pogues type song from the start and Vic has really captured that London/Irish sound.

Hi Mike. The phrasing worried me too at first but I thought it could make the song more interesting. I just needed to rearrange some of the lines to get them into the right meter by slipping in the odd word here and there. Thanks for your support and comments.

Hi Ed! Thanks for the visit and suggs. Strange you should say that about the guitar solo. My first thoughts were for an accordion, banjo or whistle solo but couldn't get hold of a good loop to slot in. Still looking.

Hey Ed. Just for your info. Just uploaded a version with different solo onto Soundcloud. It's not an accordion but it's a better guitar sound imo.

Hey Vic and Travis,
This song just really works guys.
For a small moment there, I was back in Kilburn, London with the Celtic music of the day.
Really great feel, and a top notch listening song.
cheers, niteshift
