Hi all, this is a new mix with the "cacophony" word replaced by "Din" The first link is the new one, the second the old version

Eve Of Mourning

(Vs)
Hiding in nooks and crannies, shadows are his friend
The fog gives him a blanket, streetlights can't peek in
Sirens in the distance, scream out for him tonight
The darkness is his comfort, the cloak that he holds tight

(Ch)
It's the eve,
eve of mourning,
tears fall like the rain
On this eve,
eve of mourning,
she's crying in her pain
She's battered and bruised
been hit and abused
On this eve,
eve of mourning

(Vs)
A dog is barking somewhere, car horns pierce the air
a din of city voices are everywhere
Hugging an alley wall, he moves along his way,
followed by a figure that wants to make him pay

(Ch)
It's the eve,
eve of mourning,
tears fall like the rain
On this eve,
eve of mourning,
she's crying in her pain
She's battered and bruised
been hit and abused
On this eve,

(Bridge)
He hears a sound, he turns around
as the hammers coming down.
He couldn't run from her father's gun
that followed him through town

(End Ch)
It's the eve,
eve of mourning,
tears fall like the rain
On this eve,
eve of mourning,
she's crying in her pain
Daddy's on the run
but the deed is done
On this eve of mourning
daddies on the run

Thanks Jim. I'm working on a couple other songs with Christine. She's got a huge studio in Dubai. She's way above my caliber, but somehow still wants to work with me. I'm not complaining smile

Morning, James:

So glad I took the time to read the lyric... and click on the link. I cannot heap enough praise in your direction for the incredible power of this song. Granted, the vocal provided by Christine carries this to another level most of us are incapable of achieving. I also like the artwork on your page... but that is only icing on the cake... and your cake is "baked" to perfection.

This is a hit if you can find a way to grab the ears of someone who has the power to promote it. Best wishes for success.

Thanks very much Dave, such a nice compliment. I showed Christine your response, and I could almost see her blush through her text back....I did that art for my profile and background about 5 years ago (or more) in PhotoShop, which is another big hobby of mine. Thanks again

I returned for a second listen, James. A song has to be good to make me do that.

Sweet tune LJ. Vocals ring like a bell. Hold on to her.
Black Velvet kinda vibe. Enjoyed it overall and liked the way the the lead guitar notes popped.

Like Jim, I went back for seconds. Woman's voice is a drug. wink

A lot to like here, James. Slow, sexy vibe musically, smooth as silk vocals, hard hitting lyrics, professional sound. My nits are minor but needed to share them.

The bridge would pop so much more if the vocalist would hit it harder with more emotion and up the pitch, either/or, both maybe? It gets a little lost in the low key vibe when it really wants to scream.

The other thing is Christine's pronunciation of "cacophony". It's an awkward word to begin with and only one word in the whole song, I know, a small thing, but it really stood out to me.

Just some observations. Well done overall.

Thanks Martin, very appreciated. I have done 4...maybe 5, and am currently working on another one with Christine. Most are still being tweaked. I hope to do a lot more with her.

Wonderful production, great vocal and really like the write.

I agree that the word "cacophony" isn't working, it trips up the singer and it sounds odd.

The bridge doesn't match the meaning of the words, I think it is much more exciting than it is coming over. I not only think that she can go up on notes in certain areas to make it more exciting, but the music should build also and the last line should be more intense...

Just my thoughts, but I do really like the song!

James,

I love the melody and vibe with this tune. Nice performance by all as well.

My thoughts on the production--a couple of sugs:

I'd move the electric lead guitar riffs only about 70% left instead of full left--my thoughts on that are they are key and I think will have more power yet still offering weight to the left but a little stereo balance for me would glue the guitar better to the mix.

The bridge is the weaker area I would agree with Tammy, though digressing musically as a bridge should, I don't feel the "need" here for a bridge--here's why:

Your chorus vocalist (very nicely) builds this chorus into a bit of a crescendo and afterwards musically/structure-wise, I feel that this is where the lead guitar needs to "take over" and maintain that lift........not fall back into a soft jazzy bridge. For me at this juncture, the song loses it's "steam." This song isn't real "pop" rather, more blusey rock and I don't think you need a bridge, because you don't need a "break" from any melody that's getting to feel dominant or redundant. Show off your lead player here with a significant solo, then come back and finish the song. This is JMHO.

I really like this song a lot, maybe crank up the snare hits a db or two as well--great popping sound with that snare.

Ideas only, not really nits, use or lose!

Hey Mr. L.J. Nice to meet you.
this collab is a cut above. Sounds to my ear like it was written by one person. Well done. Really liked the story too.

I was looking for a word last night "prosody". I don't know if I use it correctly actually but to me I use it when melody, words and meaning collectively work together and become more than the sum of their individual parts. This does.

Thanks Ricki, appreciate the feedback a lot. Yes, the "Cacophony" line will be brought up. I'm thinking the word "Din" or something in that vein would work better. Good food for thought

And I appreciate your thoughts a lot! The kind of feedback I need. Will be speaking to the gang soon. Yes the "Cacophony" line seems to be the issue with all, so will talk to Christine. Like I told Ricki, I was thinking of using "Din" or something like that for replacement. Thanks again for the help and compliment smile

Thanks for the listen and nice comment Tom. Christine is fixing some lines in the song that were brought up by some, and I hope to have the final mix within a couple days.

I seem to agree with everyone here so nothing left to say.

Nice one.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Forgive me James:

I've been wanting to take time to give this a serious listen 'cause I know how important the song is to you... and to Christine. Both versions are really good and I do believe you guys have improved it in this version. It is a potential "classic" and I'm hoping it launches a string of successes for all of you. Love the backing provided by so many talented musicians. As Martin said, "Hang on to Christine" 'cause she is truly a rising star.

Thanks for taking time to share this with us. I've chained myself to my studio trying to get a few things accomplished and this was a refreshing breath of air for me. Super song! ----Dave

I really enjoyed this, James. Everything about it really, from the outstanding lyrics to the tight performance and the jazzy feel. There was a video playing in my head as I listened. I love it when that happens!
