Dear All,
The first thread was an adventure, eh?....And served its purpose as far as my original intent went...Thanks to all!
Going forward, Mike Z offered comments that he calls "just spitballing".
How's about we carry that thought out here, on a fresh thread?

Not sure what I could offer up in terms of services, but I'd definitely partake in an auction...
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

I am just now catching up on these threads. I like the idea of a small annual fee to participate in the forums, although I don't know how hard it is to implement that. I belong to a couple of Meetup Groups on the subject of photography. That organization seems to be growing very rapidly and some of those groups charge a small fee like $5 or $10 per year. It may keep out the trolls and not be significant to those who are serious about songwriting.
Frankly, I have been thinking about staying away until after the elections because when I read What's Going On and see that the majority of the posts are about politics, mostly started by one person who needs to get a life, I exit stage left.

Okay, ALL, I've had a few days to think...NOT my strong suit:-)
But I DO know, that a "yearly membership", no matter how reasonable, is not practical...Feel free to chime in Brian if you get the chance to explain why:-)
But taking a lot of Mike Z's thoughts into consideration, perhaps now is the time do do that "telethon" thingie.
Look for a new thread...I'll name names of those who have something to offer...And will probably explain it poorly:-)
Hope you'll play along!

If I have anything in common with any of you, it is a passion for music. That is why I'm on these forums. I don't care what kind of politics, trousers, jam or horses you're into, it has to start with a song.. I'd be happy to pay a small amt per year, if that'll get rid of the trolls and the politicians.. just like you would pay for an app to remove the annoying commercials.

Frankly, I have been thinking about staying away until after the elections because when I read What's Going On and see that the majority of the posts are about politics, mostly started by one person who needs to get a life, I exit stage left. I have quite a few friends who have (or had) online groups with message boards (in and out of music) and requiring a fee is often a death knell. People expect free, get all the free they want somewhere on line. My goal is to FIX the boards and update them so new people can finally get back on line. Once it happens, I want to encourage people to sign up and participate and having a fee is a giant hurdle. There IS a project, post awards, that I think could raise some money on one of the sites that track donations, give out various levels of rewards for donating etc. For now, I appreciate all the ideas, but remember you're talking to about 100 people who are here often enough to even notice. And with no ability to even sign up new people right now, we don't need any more barriers. After we update and the awards are done in the spring, I am hoping the next big project will be a lot of fun and get people fired up to get involved. Brian

Which troll are you talking about? I already banned one, if there's a different one, let me know.

I am happy to shut the political forum down, I may be able to get it to not show up in the "what's going on" portion. I moved it way down the site so you have to be looking for it to even find it. If I close it down, some people will yell CENSORSHIP (I've already been threatened by a troll I kicked off, and I have enough issues I am dealing with, trust me). I only activated it to get it off the general board. Is that not enough?

Thankfully, the political season will soon be over and maybe we can get back to the many facets of music. Brian, I thought your moving the political thread down below the "sightline" was good.
I also think it is good to give folks a place to "vent" their frustrations and views about politics. Regardless, it is your site Brian, and our main focus should be music and songwriting. (IMHO)
Bob: You mentioned the impracticality of dues, however small. Can you explain why you think it won't work? I know it takes people to administer, collect, approve, account for and get the money into the bank... but it would stop some of the "Johnny-One-Shots" who show up briefly, never to be heard from again. It might also stop some of the trolls.
I would suggest an annual fee somewhere between $10.00 and $30.00 and naturally, for security purposes, I prefer to pay by check but would consider a credit card. It isn't cheap to run and maintain a website. (I don't use PayPal or other on-line paying schemes due to a bad experience years ago on my own long-gone website.)
Thanks for a response. ----Dave
