This was the last song to have an immediate, (positive) visceral effect on me. The first time I heard it, I began smiling, involuntarily, from ear to ear, and bouncing in my seat.

Well, Not sure as there are many, many great songs. How about RIDERS IN THE SKY by Vaughn Monroe. It is probably on the Net Look it up and see if it blows you away too.

Wow, Midnite. Thank you.
I'm all goosebumps. What a gorgeous song, from the first word to the last note.
I loved seeing the shots of people in the audience. Every response showed someone's own heartache.
Now I'm going to track down more from John Moreland.

So I am beginning to remember. Probably the last song that actually blew me away is/was A WALK IN THE BLACK FORREST by Horst Jankowski.

My brother gave me this CD about 8 years ago. I really liked the audio of this song but the visuals on the video really enhance it. Antsy McClain, "Falling In Love In America" with guest Lindsey Buckingham playing lead guitar.

Like Donna I've been chasing more of Moreland, (thanks Bob) and went back to what song inspired HIM to become an acoustic roots musician.
Wikpedia says it was Steve Earle and this song

John, I didn't know of that Steve Earle reference. Thanks for that! Mr. Earle just keeps going and going over many hard(lost) years...And just keeps going and going and going... Thanks for the link! That last verse was absolutely insane/perfect! Loved it!!! Thanks! Midnite(jaw still dropping)Bob

Can't really tell you the last song to blow me away.... songs like that often do a hit and hit (or is it my age playing games with my memory?)
but one of the songs to hit me the strongest (and stay in my memory) was Melody Guy's "Mistake Like Me" I heard her sing it at one of the jpf awards shows... and even now, every time I listen to it, it knocks me over... (sorry I don't have a link..but I'm sure there are many here that have it)
to turn the table.... one of my songs seems to have that gut wrenching affect on many folks.. I rarely sing it because it's so hard for some to listen to...

Hey Bob...that Steve Earle song is such a punch in the gut...had to learn it..gonna make sure everybody I know hears it. It's a "protest song" in the finest tradition.

I was watching a PBS fund raiser in1998. The concert was "A Night In Tuscany" starring a singer unknown to me -- Andrea Bocelli.
He sang Nessun Dorma, which caught my attention. But when he and Sarah Brightman performed Time To Say Goodbye, I was a fan.
Here is that performance:

The last song I heard that totally blew me away was one I heard on SoundCloud from a guy named Gavin Slate.
https://soundcloud.com/gavinslate/dont-be-scared-at-all Really powerful acoustic ballad.
Peace,

Several months ago, while I was in a small store, this song stopped me in my tracks and brought instant tears to my eyes.
'Perhaps Love', sung by John Denver & Placido Domingo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toYfeN0ACDw&spfreload=10 It still gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it.
