I always wondered about TV placements that cue sheets were turned in by the client, but the publisher failed to register the tracks. Here's my ASCAP Inquiry response:
If the cue sheet lists your name and publishing information as well as your society it should generate a registration. However, you may wish to monitor your catalog to make sure it shows up. Or simply register it yourself now.
Sincerely, ASCAP Member Services

John:
Why am I not surprised? Thankfully, I do monitor my registrations... and they still manage to lose a few every now and then. I'm not sure which PRO would fit my needs best but I don't think my choice would be the same. It is truly a tough business. ----Dave

Hey Dave, Well it sounds like we're covered whether the music is registered or not. As long as were a member of the PRO the cue sheets are turned in to. I did notice some of my tracks turned in to ASCAP were the title of the TV series, rather than the actually name of the track. Maybe that's how they list unregistered tracks. John .

When a song of mine gets cut I make sure I register with SOCAN the name of the artist and the title of the song. I do my own publishing so if I don't do it, who will.

Hi John!
When a song of mine, (with the now late cowriter Ron Signorelli), was licensed then used for three episodes on Fashion Television, Ascap's scientific survey only picked up on some of the airings, which we did get the publishers and writer's royalties for, (since Buddy's and my publishing company were listed as the publishers), I sent in the full list of airings. They rewarded us with extra money, by having us enter in the awards program, for such times when the survey doesn't pick up on performances, or that such performances simply aren't in Ascap's radar to begin with.
So, if anyone has such airings, for sure keep record of them all and send them in if the checks aren't reflecting the plays. They were great about it! ASCAP, that is.
