[color:#FF6666]FATHER TIME SoundCloud Alternate: Father Time Nothing ventured, nothing gained (or so we suppose). We felt very comfortable with bluegrass productions, good with Western Swing, adequate with country, a "work in progress" with blue...so here's the most rockish thing we've done and for which about every element is a steepish learning curve. From applying guitar effects to mixing and mastering it's all new. We much appreciate the support of our frequent collaborators floyd jane and Tom Adams and the support of this community in encouraging us to experiment...and for better or worse this is the latest result. We appreciate your time to listen and your comments. As always, no gigs, no commercial aspirations, no pitching - just for fun. Father Time you ran with the worst crowd everyday after school and fought imaginary enemies down the avenue
always taking advantage of the less fortunate
made out like a bandit, never failed to take the credit you're on a one way track, ain't nobody got your back Chorus:
you may think you have all that you ever desired
but your memory is fading and your body grows tired
there's one tall mountain you'll never climb
it's not long, you ll be brought down by Father Time sycophants danced 'round you like rock groupies
you paid off everyone in sight even all the juries
said you were in nam, claimed you earned the heart
funny how your buddies dont remember that part you're on a one way track, ain't nobody got your back Chorus Bridge
now your bones are aching and your eyes are dimming
it won't be very long, you've played your swan song Chorus

I would say now you have mastered just about every genre. Great mix. I really dug the guitar and Janice's vocal is always a wow.
Heavy Metal next?

hey y'all,i'm liking this but i think ya need to pick up the tempo a bit to rock it.The slowness of it makes it sound more country but that's just me.Still all in all,a damn good song but i wanna hear ya belt out those vocals and crank that guitar!Mike

Hey, J&B....
I'm with MLB on this one. Tempo is too slow, but maybe it doesn't really matter except that it pushes you back into a country-ish type of sound...Good effort, though!

Bud & Janice ...
You guys cover a lot of genre ground. Janice sounds a bit like Susan Tedeschi doing Country Rock Blues.
I Read where a couple of folks commented that you needed to pick up the tempo to make it sound more Rock. I guess it depends on how far you want to go to give it a Rock sound. To me, it sounds like a step in that direction, not full move that way.
Regardless, I really enjoyed it as I do all your work. You guys have always impressed me with your work for quite some time now. Same applies here. Best to ya!

Dave Thanks Dave. We'll pass on the metal :-) hey y'all,i'm liking this but i think ya need to pick up the tempo a bit to rock it.The slowness of it makes it sound more country but that's just me.Still all in all,a damn good song but i wanna hear ya belt out those vocals and crank that guitar!Mike Thanks Mike - that's mighty nice of you. We originally had it much faster much it just didn't seem to work with the lyric which is perhaps a bit wordy. And, you know, you can take Janice occasionally outa the country but you'll never get the country outa her voice. But....I'll revisit the faster tempo version.

Nice sound... don't think all lyrics are pointing to the hook....the bridge is more in kind with the hook...JMHO.

Hey Bud/Janice!
Great for you for experimenting! I think the song for me feels like you are singing a certain melody that doesn't match best the root background chords in a couple of places--(down the avenue). It sounds like a half step major chord drop there, but experiment there with vocal melody to accommodate the options there with melody and it's delivery. There may be other spots likewise that will enhance the melody here which is a little dark, but cool for the vibe. This melody will need a little more attitude, as it's not your normal "pretty melody" that we are used to hearing your pretty voice. Think "Ann Wilson" from "Heart" here.
Nice start here guys!

Thanks for the feedback. I have to confess that a lot of song structure stuff is beyond me....

Hi Janice & Bud,
Well, no matter what genre you do, the needle stays consistently in the "awesome and excellent" range! This ROCKS with a hint of cool country!

steady-eddie. Thanks Eddie. We always appreciate your insight. I really like it, love Janice's voice of course, but agree that the tempo could go up, but I also think it should go up higher in the chorus. Great stuff, cool to try out different genres like that, but now we know Janice is good at everything!

Thanks Lisa -- glad the needle hung in the right range for this one! It's like listening to a classic Dead song - except with a better singer Nice. fj Come on now -- we know how much you love those jam bands.......

Janice's superb vocal brings this song right to the top... and I would not change a thing about the tempo. I did not hear it as a rock tune... I heard it as "Modern Country" or "Americana"... although the genre does not matter. It is a great song with a super vocal and backing. Radio ready right now. Great work, all concerned. Most enjoyable!

Great stuff, cool to try out different genres like that, but now we know Janice is good at everything! Tammy Thanks Tammy, we appreciate you listening and commenting. This arrangement could've gone many ways. It started out as an 8 bar blues, then I tried an acoustic/electric version with fiddle al la Mellencamp and finally it landed here. I may diddle again with it sometime and see what emerges. Thanks again.

-Mike D. Thanks Mike. We are big fans of Lucinda Williams and were shooting for a roots rock or Americana sound. Glad it worked you! Dave Yes, Americana is a great place to put it and is a genre we listen to a lot. Thanks for the kind remarks. We really do appreciate it.
