Here's a new one I wrote the other day. I hope ya'll enjoy it. I hope it's a song we can all relate to -S (C)Steve Horton 2014 I'd Play For FreeFolks see me on the stage and I, hear em' say, man he's got it made, Standin there in those lights, singin' for a dollar. In a new town every night, Still takes my breath when I see my name in lights, It's a humblin' thing, To get to chase my dreams. But there's a truth about this job, I hope they see CHORUS Thats you, me, back we were 17, When life broke our hearts, And the leather tears we cried. A new song was born that night, Between good-bye and that Texas line, These songs are livin' memories, That I’d play for free VERSE Funny thing about our tears, smiles, regrets and all them wasted years, they all seem to find a way, of piling up behind us. Till one day we turn around, And sift through the pieces on the ground, Just tryin' to recall, What the hell they used to mean. But in a song, Nothin's ancient history CHORUS 2 Like you, me, Back when we were 23, We searched the whole world thru, Till we found each others arms again. A new song was born that night, Between I do and that mornin' light, These songs are such sweet therapy, Man..i'd play for free! BRIDGE We've all got own ways, of holding on to those special times, Mine live on, In every line! VERSE Like when you,me, Were startin' our own family, And you whispered in my ear that night, "I think its time to go" Another song was born that day, When I first saw that baby's face, Like him its a livin' breathin' part of me, Just close your eyes and listen and you'll see. Man I'd play for free..

Steve,
Great song.... Love the imagery of the lyrics, they are big enough so that everyone can project their own experiences into them and a great jumble of poetry. Also, top notch music and performance. Reminds me of the lyrics of Chris Christofferson. Thanks!

Great lyric and like iggyiggy said you can slide into the imagery. Love the line I copied over. Enjoyed this!

Steve,
a good song here, well performed to boot....my only issue is "the leather tears we cried"? I don't get that line......but other than that, solid.

If you've ever been whipped with a razor strap then you'd get it haha. Maybe it's too vague. I could say the million tears we cried.. or river of tears we cried. Good point and thanks for catching the details Mac :-) -S

Great lyric and like iggyiggy said you can slide into the imagery. Love the line I copied over. Enjoyed this! I was hoping this would strum a string with you guys as songwriter. Maybe I’m naive, but I know I'd like to think that the guys I’m paying to see or hear would do it anyway because they love it that much. I know if I got paid by the hour for writing these I’d starve.. but I’d die happy!haha Thanks for checking it out, -S

Steve--
A good tempo song with a fine story--I agree with mac on the leather tears--In my mind I hear the title as BACK THEN (OR WHEN) I'D PLAY FOR FREE--JUST MY TAKE--
WRITE ON--

Hi Steve,
Well written lyric with the stories of his love life and music career tightly woven together. Nicely done on the performance as well. Yeah, leather tears is a bit obscure. :0

Love the guitar sound on this. Great vocal sung with feeling. I also agree "Leather tears" is a little vague though. Maybe "and living seemed so hard" or "and tears were easily started" which also has the bonus of rhyming (almost) with "heart" in the previous line. Title wise, I would think about what Mackie suggested.

Mackie- Thanks for the listen.. i'll definitely think about it. Ricki- Yea.. that's what i'm thinking. I know what I was shootin' for but it looks like I may need to revise that word. Thanks for checking it out. :-) Vic- Thanks Vic Like I said.. that one word is messing up the flow if that verse I guess. I'll just have to think about it.. thanks again for listening and the suggestions!
