Here is one I wrote for a baseball reunion my father puts together every year called "Boys of Summer". A bunch of old timers get together and talk about growing up together playing ball. I was going for some nostalgia here.. Headed For Home (c)Justin Heath 2013 V1 West Virginia, 1954 Baseball rich, and dollar poor The dreams we had of life in the bigs Nothing like where our dad's had been They'd be at the games when they could Faces covered in coal mine soot And mamma said I'd better be home Before those street lights came on Tall Paul, Jimmy and me Lived at the end of Poplar Street And we all started on the same mark It was a mad dash from East End Park Growing up fast, but never alone As we rounded Third and headed for home Yeah we headed for home V2 Seventeen, full of energy That old park was still the place to be Jimmy and Paul on the other bench Spittin seeds and counting hits Sometimes they'd get the best of me Sometimes I'd strike em out 1-2-3 And Mary Lou she was the sweetest thing Every ball player's high school dream She'd watch me all day long As I'd swing away at Moonie's curve ball The cheers I'd hear from up in those seats Came from pretty girls and family It was the greatest feeling I'd ever known As I rounded third and headed for home I headed for home V3 Days turn to months, months turn to years Sitting on the porch I'd have a few beers And often wonder about the boys of summer So I made a plan for us to see one another I called em up with the play by play Been over 50 years boys, enjoy it today Meet me down at East End Park We'll tell some lies til well after dark And we'll always know we'll never be alone As we're rounding third and headed for home Headed for home Headed for home

Really nice song Justin. Great storytelling and an excellent production. Love the double meaning behind the lyric "heading for home" but if I have a small nit, it is that I was hoping for a bigger build up to that line or a more pronounced chorus. Regardless, song had my interest from start to finish and it is very well written, performed and procuced.

Great storytelling and production. Giving all the characters names makes them all the more real. Lots of cool word pictures and I love the hook, especially when it gets to the end and wraps it all up. Be proud of this one.

Thank you all for the warmth on this one! It means a lot!
Stevie- All those characters are real people. I had to basically interview my dad and take copious notes to build this song! So glad you liked it.

Justin,
I agree these lyrics are so relatable for many I'm sure and interesting for most all. Great concept, I enjoyed the music, production, and performance--nice tribute.

Great story and really smooth and sentimental vocals. I grew up playing ball and sharing my love of baseball with my father and this song really touched my heart. Wonderful writing and production. I loved it.

Hey Justin...
Great piece of Americana you have crafted. Well done all around.

The more I listen to this, the more I like it. It brought a tear to my dads eye the first time he heard it. That's what its really all about!
Again, thanks for the kind words guys! The song is going over better than I expected it to.
