MAB. This is a song Glynda wrote (don't kill me Glynda for posting this) that had me obsessed from the first listen. Instead of telling me what you DON'T like about it, I want you to go line by line, like you did with the Eagles, and tell me what you DO like about it, because I intend to perform it with my band (we're doing it a little differently, kind of a rock ballad song, but still along the same melody line). This song is so empowering to anyone who has ever had to survive an abusive relationship, I think it needs to be heard...so, instead of picking it apart, I want you to state all of the GOOD things you hear in this song (PLEASE)! The whole song is good, but the hook "Step to the side, gitta outta my waaaaayyyy, best not try to stop me" is enough to keep it living in my head since day one. Even the bridge is powerful to me. I have sung it to several of my friends, and it has become a MOVEMENT around here! This one song, that Glynda wrote from her heart, and Heather belted out, has quite a few women going crazy, and it hasn't even been broadcast yet! A good friend of mine has a video idea in the works. This song has many "hooks"...but they're very subtle, the message of the song is so powerful and the melody so perfect, it's hard NOT to get hooked on! BTW, I won't make a habit out of asking you to examine songs, I know you do that for a living and am not trying to take advantage of you, but this particular song, is such a special song, and you ARE a member of the JPF family, I am asking you ONCE to dissect this song, for this particular "hook" thread purpose, because I believe in it so much and think so many women need to hear this message. I am hearing a "hook" in every verse. The chorus is a REAL HOOK. Is anyone else hearing this? http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8168231Step To The Side I've been tied down way too long In this loveless thing you call a marriage Lived My life the way You told me to Lost myself somewhere along the way It's time I toughened up and moved on I need to find myself again I miss that sassy, funny, carefree girl If I mess up, I'll have myself to blame But life's too short to live Your way I'm ready for My life to begin Step to the side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side You'd introduce me as Your wife Never mentioned my first name Treated my as Your property I'm through playing your selfish games Tonight I'm taking back My life I've prayed until my knees are bruised Should I leave or should I stay I tried to think of four good reasons And I couldn't even think of one Leaving you is what I choose Step To The Side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've got a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side I need to find a reason to smile A reason to wake up I'm going to find how to Love Me again Step To The Side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of Me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side Step To The Side Step To The Side written: by glyn
