just a quick write, about looking back. Michael Zaneski made something out of this for me, what his vision was in this song...thank you Mike.. https://soundcloud.com/lane1777/another-mile-or-two-2http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=13194809&q=hi&newref=1Another mile or two v1. I walked away from a situation, those last words keep on ringing. should I flip a coin in my condition ... and call to you at home. chorus: Some hearts are made for leaving and I have thought of all the reasons I packed-up.. and left you this note . The road is not always longer and no one is getting younger I might look back, and call myself a fool. But thats going to take another mile or two.. v2 Midnight and lone-star hi-ways I might think different with the sunrise I`will just keep moving till its daylight... you should know... . chorus: Some hearts are made for leaving and I have thought of all the reasons I packed-up.. and left you this note . the road is not always longer and no one is getting younger I might look back, and call myself a fool. But thats going to take another mile or two.. bridge: I can`t get back to the way that we once loved can`t find the heart ...to turn this around... chorus: Some hearts are made for leaving and I have thought of all the reasons I packed-up.. and left you this note . Whoa, I love the chorus, Lane! Very cool vocal from Michael also. Really sold the song to me, with the Michael's phrasing and styling. Perfect arrangement and music accompaniment. Tag line left me wanting more, so I went back and listened again! Very, very good stuff fellas. Loved it! -TK

Love the vocal and arrangement. You both did good on this.
My only sugg would be to have a drum fill or shot as the chorus kicks in.

Wow. COOL melody and production on this. Music with a capital M.
The words "sing" nicely.
How were the horns done? (nice!)
Cool song, guys. This is a co-write, correct?

Hey Lane and Mike:
Impressive work on all fronts. You two are scoring big in your creativity department... and I really enjoyed the way this one turned out. Pitch this thing... it deserves to be on the radio.
Congratulations, ----Dave

Hey there Tim..I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the chorus is kind of catchy. Lane has a way being catchy and conversational in a really natural way. Hi Vic, thanks! Yeah, the music was mostly BIAB, but I took the Rhodes style keyboard and put through fake "rotary speakers" that were in sync with the tempo, and that seems to drive the music. After that, it all came together. Did I miss another drum fill? Sometimes I forget that BIAB will not add a fill if the bridge and chorus are the same color aka substyle. Doh! Hi Floyd! Thanks so much for the kind words. The horns were not samples, but from a "Virtual Modelling" program called WIVI Band, which has 8 different wind/brass instruments, including flute and trombone. Wallander Instruments puts it out, I bought it a while back, it was only about a hundred bucks. No, not a co-write. I started a (reasonably priced) demo service a few months ago, advertising only in the Musician's Message Forum, and it's been non-stop ever since. I still do some collabs/co-writes when I have free time, but the demo service is my only source of income, thanks to a my age (57) and a bad back (110) and a nerve damaged thumb that keeps me from busking and performing live music. Hi Dave, thanks! I am lucky that Lane gives me the freedom to "go with" my vision..Much of his work hits me as much Memphis as Nashville, so I've been trying to find a balance therein. I would love to pitch some songs. I miss my friends in Nashville. Maybe in a year or so..thanks again, friend. Mike

What a fine, fine song. Lane, you must be thrilled with it. I love the concept of 'another mile or two'. Really enjoyed the lyric, and Mike's inimitable vocals, style, and vision for the song. Simply lovely. Donna

Good write, Lane, and beautifully sung and produced, Mike. I especially liked these lines:
I might look back, and call myself a fool But that's going to take another mile or two
The word "situation" felt a little awkward at first but after a few more listens it was less so. Overall, well done!

Hi Donna, thank you! I enjoy setting Lanes songs; trying to find that perfect Nashville/Memphis balance that's there in much of his work.
Hi Michael, Yeah, Robbie R. gets a similar vocal sound. I think he's a big Wilson Pickett fan too, as is John Hiatt. I wanted that thick Pickett texture and enthusiasm, so I listened to a bunch of his hits before I sang so it might affect my vocals, and it did. Thought I'd share that cuz I get the feeling your process is sometimes similar. Thanks again.
Thanks Travis, Lanes music and words sing off the page for me.His heartfelt lyrics are always a joy to put my voice behind.
Hi Ricki, yeah "situation" was I think a 6/4 cross rhythm I was singing there--maybe more appropriate in a Steely Dan song. I wanted something soulful but a little different for openers. Thanks!
Thanks Mackie, glad you enjoyed it!

Very soulful, both of you. I like the chord changes in the bridge. It was pleasantly unexpected. Fine lyric and interpretation my Michael. Among the best I've heard here. Take a bow.

HI Calvin, thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's fun singing like that. Hi Stevie! I like the bridge too--a little Nashville in a mostly Memphis song. Mike

We like what Michael said: "a little Nashville in a mostly Memphis song"
That is a great summary of the feel. There's a ton of things to like here and to my ears nothing not to.
Great production -- the write, the arrangement, the vocal and instrumental tracks --- everything sounds right in the pocket on my monitors.
Great job y'all!
