This song goes back to 2002. I've redone it for my upcoming cd, one of the few I'll repeat. It's also going to licensing libraries and I might try self-licensing.

Let me know what you think. It's an Americana, light rock, bluesy, folky love song. All the singing and playing is mine.

EDIT: and here's the third mix LOL. I hope this one does it, let me know, Mark and/or anyone.

Man's Intuition (c) 2002 words and music by Mike Dunbar

I ain't no mind reader
Ain't got no ESP
But I can tell your future
It's you right next to me

I got a Man's Intuition
That you're ready for my love
A Man's Intuition
Like a sign from above

You're looking for a real love
And you deserve the best
Well I can make that happen
If you just put me to the test

I've got a Man's Intuition...

I'll get on through the next few days and do a bunch of crits.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike

well good song -- I just like it

I could feel the groove of a good sax player coming in after the final verse and building with what you have......

You forgot to say if you are open for suggestions for changes or just giving us a taste of a finished track. If it is finished, then I'll just say that I amazed that you are doing all the playing and singing -- everything seems like it was done by a guy who just does "that" instrument (if you know what I mean). It sounds pretty dang polished, but I guess that's really not too hard to believe since you know you way around the studio pretty well! It could easily veer towards that jj cale "naturally" sound.

If you are looking for suggestions, then I would recommend looking at the percussion. It just needs something to "top it off" and give it extra oompf! Maybe just a conga would do it. If I was writing a song for someone else, then I wouldn't use the love/above rhyme. If I am doing a tune for myself and it fits -- then I'll use it!

Good one.

Kevin

Diggin' it Mike grin

The simple melody used throughout just kind of burrows into your head and stays there. Even now I'm singing it in my head. smile

Great hook too - one of those of the slap yourself on the side of the head and say "Why didn't I think of that" kind.

Enjoyed the performance too - always cool to hear a pro playing all that stuff....

A good song that combines simplicity with a great production to make a foot tapping, hook setting, quality song.

The clarity of the mix and all the parts is very impressive.....a lesson in studio engineering.

Do you want to sell that singing and playing, or at least rent it for a while? Very enjoyable song. I agree with pretty much what everyone else said. I could copy word for word from Scott and that would be my comment.

Thanks folks, that's very kind of you.

Kevin, it's not "in stone" more like in hardwood. I liked your idea, so I put some djembe and a shaker on it and posted a second mix. Also I put the vocals a bit more in the track, something I heard while listening on my web computer's speakers.

Anyway, here's a link to the second mix so you don't have to scroll up:

Let me know what you think.

tomorrow I'm going to start doing a bunch of crits to pay for all your kind attention. This is really helpful.

Howdy Mike, Gus here. cool laid back groove, soundin' like you know
exactly what you're talkin about. & spreading the truth to all
wise enough to listen closely. Overall, a strong concise lyric,
repeated just enough to drive it home.....Yeah, Thanks for sharing

I listened yesterday and didnt comment because I didnt know what it was exactly that was giving my ears issues, the remix took care of it. I really like the slow groove through out, not a bit aggressive, but very confident feel, has a bit of a nostalgic
feel without sounding dated, and like Scott said it embeds itself. All that to say I like the song, go figure... grin

Listened to mix 2. Great groove.......so much going on I would need several listens just to pick out all the parts. It all sits very well balanced and I love the harmonies.....How are you at playing a sax?.....I also think it cries out for one.

Hi Mike,

"It's an Americana, light rock, bluesy, folky love song."

I'm hearing a little death metal in there too! smile Very cool. It really shows off your exceptional skills as a producer, as well as your musicianship, writing and performing and all within the 3:15 minute mark. Really great feel. You should share more often.

I think men have intuition. They just don't know how to TALK about it!

Hey Mr. D,

Interesting you use a "man's intuition" as opposed to the standard "woman's intuition", novel. Catchy melody..lean lyric but that's okay although I think a bridge might be a plus melodically and fatten the lyric just a tiny bit. An idea:

Don't need the stars to tell me
I feel it in my bones
I'm thinkin what your thinkin
Baby let's just bring it home

Love the guitar playin and the intro is perfect. Have fun w/it!

Best,
Lynn smile

Hi Mike,

Your description fits it to a T. I really like all of it but I agree with Lynn. I'd like to hear anther verse or two of lyric. Could that be because lyrics are my Thang???

Well I knew it would be very well produced with every part sounding just right, and a nice classy vocal...I hear you're an old guy, but you sound like a young buck. laugh Great hooky concept with that timelessly awesome Bonnie Raitt kind of groove.

For me, this song really needs a bridge...the little turnaround after the chorus gives us a taste of something else, but not enough...and I understand the idea of staying locked in that nice hypnotic groove...but I got a little bored near the end, when I didn't want to. Just felt the yearning for something like going to the V for four lines or so, making a little drama happen, maybe a little refinement of the message or the situation, then slam back into the groove. Just a thought.

But I know when I lay in bed tonight, my head's going to be spinning with fireflies and man's intuition. Great stuff, Mike!

Thanks again, folks. Kind of you to listen.

Alan, nope, not Freddie, that's me playing the drums on the keyboard. The tambourine and shaker are live.

Mark, I've fought that for years with this song....wrote several other verses and a bridge. The verses and especially the bridge take away, as you said, the hypnotic feel. Just now, I've done a remix with a lead between the last two verses, fading out on the last one, that, I think, gets it. I'll post it when I get more time this week, working on John Selleck's tune right now.

Jim, no, I don't play sax. Yes, it would be good, but for my personal cd's I don't use other musicians. That's for three reasons, one: I can't afford them, and won't ask friends to play for free; two: I don't want to hurt someone's feelings by asking one over the other; and three: ever since I was a snot nosed kid, I've always wanted to record songs playing everything. Having said that, a dobro playing buddy of mine is twisting my arm for a new one I wrote...we'll see.

Thanks All,
Mike
