http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIbC7TbwtK0An Ode To My Git-fiddle. ( |O=====@) Verse 1 _ This git-fiddle's endured angry fingers and thumbs plucking pain from its frets, till my digits were numb, with its dark sound hole screaming, as my vocals fell mum, something far more redeeming, then I'd ever begun, things my heart should be dreaming... ....on lonely nights yet to come. Verse 2 But it's also known loving, when I've wooed a young girl, watched her eyes softly moisten under long lashes curled, it's my cure and my poison when each heartstring I've pressed, coaxed a smile gently poised in ways that make two hearts blessed, what came next can be guessed. Chorus- Sweetest notes became kisses till her song reached its end, loneliness softly fading with my mahogany friend, hardened steel and soft nylons oh, so gently they'd bend... while the warmth of flesh blending played again and again. verse 3- All my dischords bled out into sweet harmonies one round bodied Ovation playing love's melodies echoed on in my memories with passionate pleas. verse 4- Now it squats in the corner my dear friend for life, that never turned on me yet or cut me like a knife, though it's made me a mourner, it brought me my wife. thus we still take communion with the sweet wine of life and I'll always embrace it both in joy and in strife. Chorus- It's a mystical thing, spawned of wood, steel and strings, there's no song to express all the joy that it brings, I'll let no dust films gather, on its smooth, yawning face, it holds powers beyond me, plus the next tune I'll chase, with my heart's guest of honor in it's permanent place. Here's to my old git.....fiddle pegged a wee bit high strung, but man it's got style, on my shoulder strap hung, like a true gifted child, it is second to none, someday I'll be a star, from the works it has done. A collaboration music by Paul Churchfield lyrics and harmonies by ArtWhimsically Yours Studio MFB III Productions (c)-10/8/2010 The music end of it... MFB, Below is my transcription of the chords that I heard, in listening to your acapella recording. Here is my recording of me playing along with your vocal. I am just strumming the chords (shown below). I couldn't really get in synch with your vocal recording. I think we need to add some kind of tick track, for this to come together, from across the miles. Please listen to the chords and consider if they are what you really meant. I hear some good stuff but it goes through an evolution. I'm thinking maybe that the first chorus might not really be what you meant, since you pretty much aborted it (the major key) by the end. Here is the link to my first recording: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9816094And here is another recording that I did with metronome on left channel, playing the same chords. See if you can sync it from your side, using this recording. I am pretty sure that I didn't give everything it's proper rests and timing but hopefullu there is something here that you can glean from it. We''l do a few more go-rounds of this and I feel that we can come up with something nice. Here's the second link: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9816095Below is my transcription of your song w/chords Note: Chords not positioned correctly over words. It appears that the spaces got removed. ha, ha -- you can't have an a capella version on an "ode to your guitar" tune. Lot's of popping and clicking. I have tough time on stuff without backing music.

Lol...Good Point Kevin, "Ode to my acapella," is more like it, But Paul Churchfield is hopefully gonna be working up the guitar to back it. Thanks for the comment though...it made me laugh.~~~MFB III

Just listened to the acapela version. You are out of another time, MFB - and I'm digging it This feels like something from a stage play - as does the other stuff I've heard of yours. Very clever lyric too.... Didn't listen to Paul's tracks (very cool of you Paul) - I'll wait until it's done Nice stuff! Scott

Hey, Scott thanks for the listen, Just don't let to many folks know about my vintage-ness cause my time machine's on the fritz and I won't be able to escape the retro fans...LOL!
I have done extensive stage and theater work as an actor, so I guess some of my songs are bleedovers. This one is a favorite, because I have known too many times when my most beloved friend was my guitar. It too is a bit of a time machine when we play songs from long ago, about loves long lost, and the memories come flooding back. Thanks for listening....I'm still hashing out the vocals and instrumental ~~MFB III

MFB--
Sounds like this one belongs in a MATTY GROVES SETTING IN ENGLAND in the LORD ARNOLD CASTLE. I used to read a lot of old English FOLK pieces, from those olden days--I like this a lot, what YOUALL have so far--SO EVER ONWARD!

Hi Matt I listened to all versions. I must say I prefer the 'unaccompanied' recording. I do however take Kevin's point, that an unaccompanied ode to a guitar is a strange, If the guy likes his guitar that much why doesn't he play the damn thing ??? LOL! That said the lyrics are great - top class! So on this one I think the singing and the style is brilliant. I think the song lyrics are brilliant also. It's matching the two together that, like Kevin I'm struggling with. That said I've only listened to the tracks once so it's only a first impression. As for the style, Mackie spotted it well. For me this style is 'barrack-room balladry' real 18th Century English stuff. The style reminds me of songs like Peat Bog Soldiers about prisoners of war in Siberia! Obviously the song is very different but the style is there. More generally speaking Matt, in your case 'barrack-room style' would suit many of your songs. You write a lot of great lyrics about the armed forces very much in the style of ' Rudyard Kipling' famous for ' Gunga Din!' and the ' Road to Mandalay!' and the execution of 'Danny Deever'. While Kipling was an English soldier himself servicing on the East India Campaign, many of his lyrics were decidedly anti-war! And many of these lyrics were originally performed and sung as ballads in the style of your 'Ode to My Guitar!' Just something that crossed my mind that might give you more inspiration and great ideas! Anyway great job Matt, I really enjoyed this. ColmT

Hey ColmT You hit it right on the head...as much as I'd like this to be rock n roll I can't get that haunting melody out of my head. Paul did a great job on the accompaniment, but fitting the song to it has been a dilemma. I feel as if it needs to be stronger witn an intense feel to it.....so I am still playing with the melody and the chords. Perhaps a long reverberation of each chord, echoing and even a bit distorted with the vocals over the top of each chord change, might work. Thanks for your input. I do write a lot on war, one's of mankinds??...and i use the word kind questionly ....greatest plagues. We need as songwriters to speak and sing out our aversions to such destruction. ~~~MFB III

Hi Matt
I've said this before, but in absolute agreement, at the risk of repeating myself:
If no-one is born with a gun in their hand, why then should anyone die with one, as the result of others retribution and barbarity, from what is unquestionably a travesty of human dignity, the absolute violation of divinity and something which is so abundantly bereft of any and all human dividends! After each theatre of war falls silent the merchants of war and conflict make 'their' peace, from same mansions where they sit in antique chairs watching their servants stoke the fire! Apparently even the merchants of war, see and enjoy the benefits, of warmth, security and 12 year old brandy!
While I'm no supporter of the Holy Roman Sea, Pope Pious said it best Matt after the second World War:
"No war! No more war! Never war! Never again war! - War never again!"
Keep up the good work
ColmT
Rock on my friend
ColmT
