I don't know anyone here that plays steel. There are two guys over at songramp (dad and son) that both play steel. Maybe try them at: http://www.songramp.com/homepage.php?userid=21749 (there's "site mail" at the bottom). Kevin

John is very good. My publisher also plays steel. Robin Ruddy, has played with Rod Stewart, Vince Gill, Shania Twain, Ray Stevens, very good. You can catch her at The Parlor Studios.

Marc, did you just post the email to your publisher on the Internet?? :-)
What should the rate be about for a steel guitar overdub track?

Magne,
I did post the address to my publisher on the Internet. But it is not going to help anyone in submitting material. They don't take anything from anyone they don't know either. that is Robin, Ruddy's e-mail for those who might like steel guitar work. She also plays dobro, banjo and madolin. Most players play multiple instruments. If the tuning is similar, they can play it. I am not sure what she would charge, you would have to ask her. Most sessions are booked by the hour, $75-$150 would not be out of the question, depending on how long it took them. She has the Parlor Studios, so I am sure there would be no problem to play to existing tracks and send them in some electric form.

Magne, Anyone can send them all day. They are never read. But ask someone about booking them, sure, that gets through. Robin is pretty funny. I knew her and her husband Larry for three years then decided to start using her in my band. Had to share her with Vince Gill and Shania Twain and about four other bands. Every musician plays with abou 10 different artists or bands. Larry and she formed Best Built songs around me as the writer. WE did very well for six years but could never get those big earning singles. They built a BEAUTIFUL studio to support the company, but it drained all the capital out of the publishing company and became a full time job just running the studio. Then she got suggested in about five different directions to Rod Stewart who wanted a female banjo/dobro/steel guitar player who was cute and sang. For three years she had the greatest gig. Touring the world with Rod. She went everywhere, the band traveled first class, doing amazing things. He gets paid four million dollars for private parties. So they had a really cool 13 person band that traveled all over the world. One of the coolest pictures she has is one from behind her in front of 70,000 people at Wembly Stadium for the Princess Diana memorial show. That is the same frame as her shaking hands with Prince Charles, Harry and William. Pretty cool gigs. But all good things have to come to an end and Rod decided to do his next tour with the Faces, his original band, featuring Ron Wood, who is on vacation from his other band, the Rolling Stones. Rod keeps contact with most of his people so she may go back to work after he does that. Who knows, Rod may next do Scandanivian Shepard Music next. He does pretty much whatever he wants to. So for now she is hireable for anyone wanting some tracks and has an amazing studio as well. visit www.theparlorstudios.com for a tour. Tell em' I sent you. MAB

As usual my smoked fish eating friend, you have a better understanding of this than I do. I always get some of this stuff wrong. I do well in my writing, just a little techically deficient. Thanks for checking my work.

HiDee Mark!
Did just visit the Parlor Productions Site...really nice folks there/excellent studio! I was particularly FLOORED by the Soundtrack Song in their Video.."(I Make My Money With My Hands) I Make My Living With My Heart" sung/written by Amanda Martin.
I haven't been THAT "Misted-Up" by a song in a LONG Time. What a JEWEL of a Write/Great Production, too, of course!!! I.O.U. for the visit there (& sure recommend The Visit to anyone who writes a Song..there's Exhibit "A" of a Great Nashville Song..ABOUT Songwriters/Performers/ANYBODY who Works.) Made My Day. (Amanda's got a New Fan, too!)
Best Wishes/Big Guy-Hug, Stan
