The last two days of 2009 I spent clearing a clogged drain. One of those deals that you have to make several trips to several hardware stores. I thought I was hitting a corner with the snake the stuff was packed so tight.
When reassembling everything I chased leaks all the way back to the sink. Lots of fun and I got to practise my vocabulary. I looked around the bathroom and realized i now had to clean up the disaster area.
I figured I'd have to spend a sizable amount of time putting things away and cleaning my way out of there. We had an old radio that we never used in there so I thought I'd turn it on while I did my remaining chore.
Lots of crackling coming out of a partially corroded volume pot, so I give it a couple of raps with my already bruised knuckle. More crackles but I've heard the song that was playing before. Do a couple more twists of the knob to work the crackles out when it dawned on me that it was my song playing.
I immediately thought the radio had a CD er cassette player in it. So, I rolled it around looking for it. Just a radio. There I was, live, livin and breathin on WJJL 1440 AM radio.
What a shock, then I remembered my friend Dale Campbell's local radio show. Forgot all about that for a spell, sure made my day when I remembered.

We older musicians grew up with the magic of radio. That's where most of us first fell in love with music, that and the record player (what's a record player, grandpa?). So when we actually hear our stuff on the radio or see it on an LP (what's an LP, grandpa?) it is an amazing thing.
Congratulations, that's truly a milestone. And, it says a lot that someone thought enough of your music to play it. Now, get many repeats and on more stations. There are big things ahead!
All the Best, Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Wow....I'm happy for you. Just to know that the possibility of having your song heard by other folks, well to me that's what it's all about.

Hi Rick:
That is a great feeling and Mike's right about the magic of radio. Back in the days before TV existed for the comman man, Radio was our lifeline to the real world. Now we're wondering if it will even survive... and it can't blame illegal downloads. It's just the result of payola and over-advertising... plus playing songs people with purchasing power don't wanna hear.
Congratulations. We are proud of you and hope your musical candle will be lit by this unforseen event... LOL!
Best of everything to you.
Dave

It's always cool to hear yourself on the radio, but even COOLER when it's unexpected. Congrats!

Congratulations and what a wonderful story. A good solution to a day that just didn't start off so good. We never know what a day has in store for us. Cindy
