We talk about our experiences and successes with different products here quite often. I, for one, do take into consideration what I read in these forums when I purchase stuff. There is a gazillion years worth of research at our fingertips. Thats a lot of leg work that I don't have to do.
Consequently, when I read an advertisement from a manufacturer that is touting their product as the "new industry standard" I'm wondering who gave them that designation. What unbiased professional agency deemed them that.
A few years ago it was the American Idol folks who named a part of their organization "official underground," and being a child of the sixties, Official and Underground ain't even in the same book.
Its terribly irksome and misleading to new consumers. Just venting.

Well Rick, That old adage, LET THE BUYER BEWARE still applies. It appears you can buy lots of competing Audio Gear, all of it perfectly good and will more than do the job. So it's like Mr. Food says when doing a recipe on T.V. Any brand is fine. Shop for the bargins!

Sadly with most sound equipment you have to buy before you try. I bought a pair of really expensive so called pro headphones recently they were crap. They sounded terrible and there was massive leakage. I had no way of testing them first and there was a label on them stating that "due to risk of infection we cannot accept returns on headphones or microphones unless they are defective" In other words you pays your money you takes your chance. It is always best to thoroughly research purchases....try them first if you can. So many manufacturers make claims that cannot be substantiated or are gross exaggerations. Best to get a friend to recommend first. There are sites where stuff is reviewed but even the reviews are conflicting and sometimes biased.

Ain't it the truth! I've heard of some unscrupulous manufacturers that will even rate their own product on some of the sites.
I hope whenever you run into an issue, like buying something untried and not returnable, that you take the initiative and lambaste the manufacturerer the middleman and the retailer at every opportunity.

I am with you on this, Rick. Like you, I usually rely on friends and colleagues for advice when it comes to purchases.
Once in a while, I run across a good salesperson who is more concerned with my buying what is best for me rather than the most expensive. I think that is really cool. Sometimes sales people won't tell you outright (they might lose their job) so instead they try to tell you with body language which items are better.

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
