I love those artists they've put in this film, Doyle Bramhall is a great feature! I think the distinction between the record business with the labels and the a&r on one side and the music business with the performing artists on the other, is an important one when we discuss 'crisis'. It is primarily the record business that have major problems with selling the soundalike artists they have been developing and gambling on, allthough of course creating some issues in the music business for sure. I particularly could relate to Bonnie Raitt's advice that you should pick a career you could see yourself doing. I've always been one who didn't care much for late evening drinking in bars and clubs, so I've always resented the musicians' 'night life' (it ain't no good life, but it's their life..). But I've still made a choice that I could live with, sitting at home writing songs. The record business might have changed to a point where you get nothing for doing that, as there are nowhere to go with my songs, still I have fun playing and writing. And if I don't like the busniess Im offered, I can just walk away and try to pursue different paths. I believe it is true that a&r and record labels is becoming more and more obsolete, as they are excluding everyone based on the premise of money knows best. In the end they end up excluding themselves because they have cornered themselves. These days the record companies are slowly adapting their distribution and marketing systems to the Internet, but the game is much more even now in terms of production means and distribution opportunities. I think the great philosopher Hubert Sumlin is right in the end, that if we believe in what we are doing and love doing it, we're millionaires. It's just in a different currency! Great film! Thanks for posting, Bob!

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
