One of the longer story pieces I have written.
OVER THE EDGE
c1995 Brian Beecher
All has not been peaceful On the home front This morning they had argued Over the bathroom
Fighting between themselves Has created arguments Leaving both feeling uptight
So she had to revise her Usual morning routine He must be out of the house By a certain time
Getting up ten minutes earlier Can make all the difference Someone at work can behave As if her opinion is not worth seeking
She tells him try not to take work problems Home with him in the evening She knows he can’t concentrate On having fun at night
There are some days when Things just don’t seem to go well This could be one of them So be prepared to distinguish
Between what can be resolved and Over what you have no control Before you go over the edge Go over the edge
He was expecting too much Either at work or at home Although he tried his best To take things in stride
He had the opportunity to Move up to a higher position But in time learned that the offer Was not as attractive as it first appeared
Soon he found himself with More responsibility and less free time For little extra money His behavior soured and she was in fear
At the end of the working week She was expecting a fun day Being able to dispose of jobs More quickly than usual
But he feels superiors at work Take his efforts for granted He as going out to lunch with colleagues To get to know someone new to his department
That Friday evening she Hoped would be a time for romance She even bought a sexy nightgown She hoped would turn him on
But he spent time entertaining clients At a sporting event Another woman had an attraction So he decided to follow through
A series of late nights Left him feeling rather fragile At about three in the morning He came bursting through the door
He went into a rage and Proceeded to beat her Full of stress and short of sleep He couldn’t take anymore
She went screaming out the back door But the neighbors heard and They summoned the police station Loud and clear over the telephone
After they took him away She began to pack her bags She would go stay with a close friend In a town that was several miles from home
There are some days when Things just don’t seem to go well This could be one of them So be prepared to distinguish
Between what can be resolved and Over what you have no control Before you go over the edge Go over the edge

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
