Has anyone here had nasal surgery?
I am having nasal surgery on July 1 to clear stuff out and repair a deviated septum. I'm wondering how long it will be before I can sing again. Anyone know?
Yes, I know, this is gross, but I figured I'd ask.

Oh, how long will it be before you can sing? Follow the dr.'s orders and you'll be back at the mic in no time. Healing is different for everyone, and no matter what the procedure is, if you push yourself too hard afterwards, you're gonna pay for it with lots of pain. Take it easy, heal well, and take the pain pills for at least the first few days.
Good luck!

No,,,I won't touch that one. I was "this" close though!
Anyway, as I never had nasal surgery, I did have my tonsils removed, and was singing Elvis tunes in a week! But I was also put in the corner for it too. (Long time ago).
Have them put a Jersey nasal sound in ya while they're at it. Helped Sinatra, Bon Jovi, The Boss, and me! Ha!
Start spreadin the nose I'm breathin today I'm gonna make a brand new start of it With my New Nose
Happy Surgery! Keep your nose up!
Best wishes, John

Thanks, all!
The surgery went very well. I did not have to have my nose packed, but he did put some plastics up in my nose to help it heal, and they will be removed next Monday. I'm stoned on oxycodone right now, so there is no pain. Going to try to cut back on it as soon as I can.
It was funny - they put a needle in me and hung a bag of saline, then when I was on the table they injected something into it and put on an oxygen mask. I remember lying there for about 30 seconds wondering when the drugs would kick into affect, and suddenly I was waking up in a different room and it was an hour later! I don't remember falling asleep.
Oh well. I'm just glad it's over.

Hi Richard, Glad to hear your comfortable after the surgery. A few months ago I went through a series a major nosebleeds landing in the emergency room twice and finally with an ENT who cotorized (sp?) some blood vessels that finally stopped the whole mess. Man, did that experience make me feel helpless and I thought that I would have to go through the kind of surgery you just did and it scared the crapola out-a-me. I've been following your posts about it here with great interest and concern and am very glad to hear that everything went well and you are feeling okay. Stay on the meds, their there for a reason cuz when they get weak in your system sometimes it's hard to regain control of discomfort. I have found that out first hand with two major surgeries and seeing Becky through her knee replacement recently. Just some friendly advice. Peace and comfort to you, Al

Today I went in and had the plastic stints removed from inside my nose. The process was extremely painful! Hurt like hell. Came home, took oxycodone, and slept for 4 hours.
I've got my voice back, though. I did a little bit of singing today and I'm pretty happy with the results. Singing feels weird. I have to get used to having the extra resonance. The high notes are seeming to come a bit easier.
I'm lying low right now but I'm playing at Tanya and Matt's this Sunday night. Wish me luck! Or stop by if you're in the neighborhood.

I had the septoplasty done several years ago but they packed my nose with guaze after the surgery. Unbeleivable how much gauze they can get in your snuaze. I wasn't performing much in those days so I don't remember how it affected me. I do remember that it was more easy to breathe etc.
