Okay, I have $400 more to spend. What I need now is a decent pair of power monitors for my DAW. Is it possible with this meager amount? I probably could go a little more, but Sandra's starting to do the math of my DAW. Best, John

My drummer has these in his studio and they are wonderful...we are getting a set for our main studio which is a commercial facility...i have listened to these next to the Mackie's(which are considerably more with similar features) and there is very little difference. Good Luck...there are several models in this series, these are the ones he has.. http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-TRUTH-B3031A-Studio-Monitors?sku=581049

Thanks Moker!
They look good! Definitely on my list of possibilities. In fact, they're the only ones on my list so far.
Best, John

Little more than I was planning on, but what do you think of these http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MR8/ ? Those 8" woofers ought to be able to carry the lows. John

From what I can read on other forums, the KRK's are prefered by many, so I think you have the right ones right there! I got a cheap pair of Soundking's myself that are a bit boomy on the bass, but I do most mixing on my poor pc speakers anyway, as they have proven to give the most universal mixes on my stuff.

John, for your consideration I can recommend either the Yamaha HS50's or the Yamaha HS80's. The 50's have a five inch woofer and the HS80's have an 8 incher. I have both, in different applications. I use a pair of the 80's for my keyboard and use both the 50's and another pair of 80's for my recording monitors. One of the problem with many of the inexpensive powered monitors is that the cabinets are simply thin plastic - which vibrate and harm the sound. These have thick mdf side covered with a high quality laminate. In addition, the drivers and electronics are typical high Yamaha quality. Here is a link to the 50's. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Yamaha-HS50M-5--Powered-Studio-Monitor---Each-103530499-i1153006.gcTom

I have several sets of headphones ranging from the cheapest of the cheap to top quality studio. Recommend Senheisser and AKG. Go for closed anti bleed. AKG 271 or 272 would be the Rolls Royce and Senheisser as a cheaper option. You will also benefit by using some cheapo ones for general comparison of your mixes. Tip...... a poor mix will still sound quite good on the quality phones but the cheapos will pick up on a bad mix. http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/sennheiser/411/Xmas+Music+Producer.htm

Thanks Pat & Jim! I'll check 'em out.
I have plenty of cheapo headphones Jim. I also have these other references: Car stereo, Yamaha monitors on the old computer, and a cheap old boom box.
Best, John
