RalphB started a discussion on Christmas songs, so I got to thinking, "Why not?" It's a little late to start pitching Christmas songs but you never know. If a good one results from the challenge it could be up on iTunes just in time. Songwriting Challenge #23 The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it. The new challenge is to write a Christmas song. You should have a chorus or a repeating line in the verse. You may create it for any genre. Music is nice but lyrics only are OK for this challenge. Have fun and good luck to you!

Wow I feel like I'm christening the new "Challenge Forum" like a bottle of champagne would hit against the side of a brand new ship. Thanks to Brian for all his hard work on starting a new Forum. Can't lie Jean this one was in the archives and not written on demand. “The Holidays are Hardest”(c)2007 Lynn Orloff The winter’s snow falls softly as the Christmas candles glow, I’m remembering the first time we kissed beneath the mistletoe. In the morning there’ll be presents all around the Christmas tree, But the only gift I ever want is your love returned to me. Chorus Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone, My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can’t go on. Wish my heart would take a holiday it just loves you all the time, It still wishes you’d come back to me, it still wishes you were mine. It’s New Year’s Eve and almost twelve, the party’s going strong, My friends are all around me, and still there’s something wrong. Another year has passed me by, a new one soon will start, It’s not one I look forward to, since I don’t have your heart. Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone, My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can't go on, Wish my heart would take a holiday for it loves you all the time, It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mine.Bridge:Valentine’s Day is coming soon, Don’t know if I can bear, Another special holiday, Without you being there, since.. Holidays are hardest when the one you love is gone, My heart just breaks a little more and I feel I can't go on, Wish my heart would take a holiday for it loves you all the time, It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mine, It still wishes you'd come back to me, it still wishes you were mine.

Hi Everyone, I'm Cathy and I'm new to JPF. This is my first songwriting challenge and I chose a childrens Christmas song. Hope you like it!
"Christmas Cookies"
Baking Christmas cookies, runs in my fam-i-lee Grandma, Auntie, mommy, and now passed down to me We all get together, when snow falls on the trees We make a batch, have some laughs Enjoying company! (Chorus)
Oh..Cookies, Christmas cookies We make them every year Chocolate chips and sprinkles Bring us so much cheer! Gathered round the counter can't beat the company Oh cookies, Christmas cookies Make me shout YUM-EEE!
First we put in flour, then we add some milk next come eggs and sugar, stir until it's silk We put them in the oven, and bake at three fifty Oh making Christmas cookies, means everything to me!
(Chorus)
Oh..Cookies Christmas cookies We make them every year Chocolate chips and sprinkles Bring us so much cheer! Gathered round the counter can't beat the company Oh cookies, Christmas cookies Make me shout YUM-EEE!
They sit fresh from the oven, my apron's tied on tight I decorate and sprinkle, the icing's oh so white I finally get to eat one, it's hardly even cool I pop it in, and start to grin My dog Jack starts to drool!!
(Chorus)
Oh..Cookies Christmas cookies We make them every year Chocolate chips and sprinkles Bring us so much cheer! Gathered round the counter can't beat the company Oh cookies, Christmas cookies Make me shout YUM-EEE!

Sounds like a song that the kids would like to sing with mom as they're baking and eating those cookies ...sounds like it could work in an animated Christmas tale as well. I can see a bunch of little elves around in funny hats too...cute one, Cathy.

Okay, I'm going to write off the top of my head but will have to come back to tweak and finish because I only have a few minutes.. and it just comes out the way it comes out...
(V1) With each snowflake that falls I think of you. In the overcrowded malls I think of you. In the quiet, peaceful nights staring at the Christmas lights the memories keep flickering in greens and reds and whites.
(Chorus) Oh, I know how you loved Christmas so, I put up the tree. and I hung your favorite angel there next to the heart you gave to me.
And I always will remember the times we used to share. It always came down to... just me and you like in that song about the Partridge and the pear.
"And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Paul McCartney

Joice how creative and clever to use red and green in your Christmas lyric, how quintessentially Joice.

Wonderful variety! I am busy getting the tech lab (new iMacs) ready for my first class next Tues, so I will have to get back to every one this weekend. I will post a Christmas song later. Merry Christmas!

thinking back to this special time of year makes me realise how much I miss you dear each year another Christmas day slips away/by as I reminisce of times gone by
I hang a sprig of mistletoe waiting to kiss you on the nose maybe this year you will re-apeer Bringing with you some Christmas cheer
I will sing a carol or two thinking of you when really all I wanted to do was hold you in my arms once more I anticipate your knock on the (holly decorated front) door
Now that Christmas day has come to an end I realise again that we will be apart My heart seems to skip a beat each time/year reminiscing about the Christmas days of past/yesteryear)
(Damion Rice could sing this in a Sinatra vein with a nice piece of piano with some subtle sleighbells setting the mood and feeling of the piece)
I write lyrics for all genre's!

Here is one I've been working on as I can for the past four or five weeks. No lyric yet. I've been working my butt off on the music. If someone else wants to try to write a lyric, I'm open to the idea. I'd like to keep any lyric this ends up with light and lively, like the music. The working title is "Christmas Everywhere" http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=276329&content=songinfo&songID=7048143
