Let's have a contest! The first five people to post, on this thread, a link to a rough demo will be entered into a poll. Whoever then gets the most votes will win. I'll do the winner a one man band demo with guitars and/or midi instruments. If it's a male vocal I'll sing it. Heck, if it's a female vocal, I'll pay Heather Cowles to sing it. So here are the rules. It must be a full song, lyrics, melody and chords. You must post a link so we can hear a work demo of it (guitar or keyboard and rough vocal...don't worry about the performance, we'll be judging the song). Only one song per person. The first five posted here will then be put into a separate post with a poll. Then people will have a week to vote for their favorite. We can vote in the poll anonymously if we wish. Whoever wins in a week...gets the demo. Once we get the first five songs I'll start up a polling thread. EDIT Well the first five are up, you can go here and vote for your favorites: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/621844/page/1#Post621844All the Best, Mike

You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Mike, I'm jumpin' in this contest feet first...i wrote this lyric a few weeks ago, thought i had a co-writer in Nashville, they got busy and backed out, i woke up thismorning , wrote this music and did this rough worktape myself....thanks for the opportunity...Moker here's the link.... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6592517The Other Side of Love You stood there in the doorway and I thought...Wow If I could work my charms and you needed me somehow It sure would feel good to be in Love again things'd brighten up, my friends'd wonder where I been Nothin' beats the mystery of the moment when you know your starin' in your lovers eyes and about to let go all the fear is set aside it feels good to lose control nothing can convince away what your body tells your soul But the magic of it all only lasts so long and the Other Side of Love, yeah the Other Side of Love is when you wonder where love's gone I remember little things like it was yesterday how we'd get up for breakfast and go back to bed to play 'n' I reckon there's a part of me that's sad it's through 'n' I figure you ain't comin' back, but still I hope you do cos... Nothin' beats the mystery of the moment when you know your starin' in your lovers eyes and about to let go all the fear is set aside it feels good to lose control nothing can convince away what your body tells your soul But the magic of it all only lasts so long and the Other Side of Love, yeah the Other Side of Love is when you wonder where love's gone Bridge: I may be one of a million fools for settin' my heart up to break but I've laughed away my tears and that's a chance I'll take cos... Nothin' beats the mystery of the moment when you know your starin' in your lovers eyes and about to let go all the fear is set aside it feels good to lose control nothing can convince away what your body tells your soul But the magic of it all only lasts so long and the Other Side of Love, yeah the Other Side of Love is when you wonder where love's gone (C)2008 Moker Jarrett/ASCAP all rights reserved

Hi Mike, I'm throwing Janice and me into this lil contest. Link to song is: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=839890&songID=6584343Thanks fo doing this for us! John I Played A Round John Crandall & Janice Hopkins [v] I needed a change, a pick me up Something to break the routine Caught in the same ol' day to day Could I be losing my steam I hadn't played in over ten years Since she wore her weddin' gown Left work early, thinkin' single Been too long since I played a round So I headed out to the edge of town If she found out, I may never live it down [Chorus] I Played A Round Put together a twosome Been needin' a change Life's been gettin' gruesome Bored with the same ol' thing Needed to know if I still could swing Yeah....I Played A Round Forgive me...but, I Played A Round [v] I got home late, she asked where I'd been Said, "I called your work today" They told her I skipped out 'bout two With a devilish smile on my face Now I'm hooked on something exciting Don't care 'bout the hazards ahead May be in the rough with a bad lie Ain't thinkin' what's 'round the bend Short on my strokes, I'll be chippin' away I may not be playin' in a fair way [Chorus] [bridge] I came home early, with some player's remorse Handed her flowers when she opened the door I said...Let's ship the kids off..It'll do us both good Baby tonight...I'm playin' my favorite course [Final Chorus] Then I Played A Round Made us a twosome Been needin' a change Life's been gettin' gruesome Bored with the same ol' thing Needed to know if we still could swing Yeah...I Played A Round uhh...huh... We're quite a twosome...we got down That's right...I Played A Round Yeah I Played A Round

I think this is one of my better lyrics -- not perfect, but OK. This line "Too far from last weekend to remember a thrill" is a little long, but I was figurig it out by the song's end. Edit: I have a word version with the chords written in. It can be sung by a male or a female. MP3: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6312081Kevin *************************************************** A Wednesday Type of a Girl (c) Kevin Emmrich 2008 (v1) She was stuck in the middle Never left or right Her emotions were a prairie No mountain or valley in sight (v2)It was not long ago When she took stock of her life And knew she was missing Some of the best Saturday nights (chorus) She was a Wednesday type of girl Too far from last weekend to remember a thrill Too far from the next one to get even a chill But she swears ------ that’s all over And the time now has come She’s Looking for her fun The change to a Saturday girl has begun (v3)So she changed her hairstyle Went for bold colors and bright So maybe those new jeans she bought Just fit her ---- a little too tight (v4) She took up dancing and the gym And met a young man named Bill He thought her exciting and fresh He was so happy to have a Saturday girl (chorus again) Instrumental Break (chorus) (Bridge) After many calendar pages have been turned and grandchildren look at her for guiding words she looks back at them and smiles and just says, "Be a Saturday child" (chorus again) The change to a Saturday girl has been done ---------- ********************************************************

I think I might be the fifth and final one. This is a demo I did with piano and a bad drum machine (and myself as the demo singer) -- would love to hear it with a guitar player in more of a country style. Thanks for the opportunity Mike! THEY BUILT THIS WORLD (YOU'RE JUST LIVING IN IT) http://www.broadjam.com/player/playerhosting.asp?play_file=12663_371987When that pinstriped banker, failed to even thank her, My mama finally spoke. She told him to his face, "Boss, it's a disgrace, How you treat the working folk." He said "They should be thanking me, What I've done for the economy, If they weren' there, I' never know they're gone." She said "That's wrong!" CHORUS 'Cause there's no such thing as a self-made man, We're all helped by someone else's hand, You're not alone, not for a minute. From the blue collar boys that built each bridge, To the farming families that fill your fridge, There's someone you owe, time to admit it. Yeah, they built this world, you're just living in it. Well I heard those words before, the night I slammed the door, In my teenage rage. Told my folks I didn't need, their money to succeed, I'd earn my own damn wage. My mama said "I know it seems, We're just an ATM machine, But there's certain things that money just can't buy, And son that's why." CHORUS There's no such thing as a self-made man, We're all helped by someone else's hand, You're not alone, not for a minute. From the prayers I taught you in the second grade, To the lessons in life that your daddy gave. There's someone you owe, time to admit it. Yeah, we built this world, you're just living in it. So when my youngest son, asks where we come from, Are we a grand design, or just a twist of fate? That's when I say. CHORUS There's no such thing as a self-made man, We'e all made by his strong hand, You're not alone, not for a minute. From the hills and valleys of this green earth, To the miracle of your brother's birth There's someone you owe, time to admit it. Yeah, he built this world, we're just living in it. Well, We've got five. Thanks to all the entrants.
You'll find a separate thread called, immodestly, Dunbar's Song Contest. There you can read the rules and vote on your favorites.
Thanks Scott and Dave. If this gets a good response, I might do it again.
All the Best, Mike

I just want to say, I think this is a wonderful thing....
