Everyone Believes Part 6 Acoustic Guitar 6:07 http://bands.soundclick.com/share/34767This was shot with the camera behind the glass in the control room. The little microphone is the only way to hear me. it picks up everything. Okay with the electric down, the bass down and the drums down here come the acoustic guitar from Part 1 back into the song. The song really starts to take shape now. It's getting catchy without a word being sung.Note: when we listen to acoustic guitars after we record them we have a tendancy to want to brighten them up and add high end. That's cool but when I moved the guitar in front of the mic you can hear the highs come in naturally from the guitar. The guitar sounded good in front of the whole, especially by itself but you have to think of the relationship of sound around the other instruments as well. It's not going to be heard alone in the song. Note : Changing the groove of the acoustic guitar for the verses really set up the separation between parts. I mean the chords are the same in the chorus as the verses but you wouldn't think so if you weren't paying close attention. It also gave the song another hook, not just strumming along but a cool syncopation. Feel feel feel

Hey Sub: Looked at it this morning before work..... This is really cool seeing it come together like this. When you said you had a remote, I thought you meant like hand sized Was good info about mic placement for the acoustic too. Had no idea it was that sensitive..... Scott

Part 6: Good stuff on how to aim the mics. Great playing too!! (of course, duh)
Missing: Part 7, VOCALS! Would love to have a video segment with vocal recording tips. How to set up & do the takes. Mic placement, and do you always sing straight through live, or do you sing a line at a time? Four takes of each line and splice? etc.
I'd also love to have a segment on how to DEAL with frustration in the studio--when you're botching the same line over and over. Or your musicians aren't getting along. (I know: order pizza!) That kind of real-world thing would be very cool. The kind of stuff they don't really *teach* you anywhere, but you have to learn one way or another.
THANKS for all this, Mike! You're a saint. This was fun and great info.
Linda
