Everyone Believes - Part 5 Drums Running Time 8:32 http://bands.soundclick.com/share/34579Here is the fifth installment the drums. I'll take a break in posting these as they look simple but are a lot of work getting up. Also to give folks a chance to catch up with the the other clips. Not too much talk here, more playing. Sound quality moves in and out a bit but is alright. I would like to use the proper music terminololgy more... triplets ,quadruplets etc... Sorry for that - But keep in mind I have never taken a drum lesson in my life and I never practice. As a matter of fact all the things I do I am self taught on.
Notes : The click track again plays a huge part in the songs development. I'm usually right on but lose my timing in a few short spots. I could blame my balance disorder but I won't the main thing throwing me is that I'm distracted I keep stopping and starting and I'm trying to think about what I'm going to talk about and discuss. But even so I'm right with the click so even if I go slightly off when you take the click track away the timing is gonna be real good, and hard to notice any errors at all. I start off with a quick warm up...Notes: When i'm talking I'm explaining first how the sections are emphasized by the drums. Going into the chourus (the pre-chorus) I open up the Hi Hatto lend towards building up into the chorus. An old school technique it's very effective. Note: Instead of Riding on the ride cymbal in the chorus, I choose to ride the crash cymbal this makes it much more harder, heavier sounding. Then I use the ride during the solo section for a change up. Note: I use a double bass foot technique on the bass drum using a single bass pedal. All good drummers can do this. It's very effective to the song.

Hey Sub
I noticed it seemed like you sped up a little bit on the choruses but you were still in time with the click track. And the the verses seemed a bit slower Why?

Good question dude. When playing to a metronome you can play on the beat, behind the beat, or ahead/on top of the beat. During the chorus i wanted to be on top of the beat it so it gives the energy feeling a band would have when they Always speed up on the chorus playing live. Then I try to sit slightly behind it in the verses, as that lends great groove and pocket to a song. Excellent observation and question you must be a musician

I was wondering how many mics you use to record drums usually? Another good question.... It all depends on who and what the set consists of. As this one is stationary. I have 2 overheads - One inside the kick - One top snare -One bottom snare- one on the hi hat - one on top of each tom. Sometimes i'll put one out in front of the kick or a few feet in front of the drums. Also one on the ride cymbal if it's dominate in a tune like in surf music. So always at least 9 microphones.

Scott Hi Scott, Tripp laughed as well when she read this just now. Yes I'm back to old tricks again responding to my own posts. Sue Lainey used to catch me doing it all the time. I hope she is well I haven't heard back from her in quite some time. I to am an expert at finger drums on keyboards so I can relate. I actually do it live to the song not programmed. I stink at programming haven't practiced it since the 80's

Hi Sub, I hope Sue is well too. I haven't heard a thing in ages.
Wondered if those were, like comments you copied over from Soundclick or something. Just creative bumping, eh? LOL
Part 5: Whoops! You labeled 2 parts "Part 5" on your video page. I see Drums goes first. K.
Man--very cool. When I'm working with loops here, I tend to set the drum groove in first. But as long as you're all working TO THE CLICK... it shouldn't matter which part you do in which order... right?
...And by now I'm thinkin', this guy has no idea how flamin' talented he is... Sitting here showing everybody how to perform EACH instrument!
BTW...What are you saying on the fadeout?
