I've run into a few solo artist who "think" its all 'bout them ! ......I mean, I like to support other artists at their gigs when I can, buy their CD, give then tips and all....BUT you get the ones who...run their set into your time slot, never stick 'round to here you, or say I'll be at your show (cause you came to mine)...and NEVER show, etc. In a sense its enough to make one think "what I do doesn't count or matter". But in the end ,....they just piss me off. Do you think there is more of this goin' on these days ?? Was there a time or place when people showed more support for the "common musician" ? I think alot of the selfish one's are more common-run-of-the-mill than they think !!! OK........MY RANT IS DONE good nite all

Could be that they are that busy. Maybe they're not fond of the music. Maybe they don't have money. Maybe they spend time working on their songwriting, knowing it's not so good. Maybe the best thing to do is flat out ask why to someone who's done that.

In my neck of the woods, there is a lot of support among local/regional indie performers. We just help each other out and "say what we mean, and mean what we say".
There is no place for an ego unless you want no friends.

That is a pet peeve of mine...We have a lot of showcases and writers nights in Cincy where some people {not all!} show up just in time for their set, and leave as soon as they're finished. Not only is it disrespectful to the other performers, but it seems lost on them that the stronger we are as a community, the better off we'll be individually as well.{BTW,I'm hoping that will NOT be the case next week when the Roadtrip comes to town.}

Sorry I didn't take the time to read this post string. I just came in, said what I wanted to say, and left. I'll read it when I get a free moment maybe. :-)

Hi Bob and Madferit. I'm glad someone saw the humor in my post. It is a frustrating topic. Typically they are the ones that if they arrive during your performance, will also talk to someone else and not pay attention to you at all either. I kind of reminds me of the Washington Post article about Joshua Bell ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040401721.html). Even with top quality performances, people have a different mindset these days.

Ignorant people usually get their comeuppance. What goes around comes around. Most genuine people are always ready to help and are approachable. I have worked with some of the best and have found usually the top pros are pretty much one of the guys and very humble down to earth people. Its the little wannabes who tend to be the pain in the....problem. If they are ignored or left out of the conversation they soon get the message.

I really like hearing other talented people play, so I generally try and show up for our support acts, or hang out when I'm done if we're the support...I would go out damn near every night and listen to live music, but, being a musician I'm nearly always quite broke. Bummer.
