Whiskey Burn ©2005 Corey Parkman Monday was hell in the Delta heat A passing storm poured no relief From layin’ a highway through the backside of July Burnt like charcoal and down in his back Jesse came home grinding an ax Took it out on Renee as he took down a fifth of rye And he felt that whiskey burn Like the Coahoma sun Renee was cryin’ one day he’ll learn Someday that boy’s gonna learn Weekend come, Jesse went to the boats Renee stayed home, bruises on her throat Nursing a black eye for askin’ to go along She poured a remedy for her pain Though she knew she’d have to explain She filled up her emptiness till that bottle was gone And she felt that whiskey burn Like the Coahoma sun Renee was cryin’ one day he’ll learn Someday that boy’s gonna learn Jesse came in broke and crazy drunk Reached for his whiskey then threw a punch B*tch, you’d best get to town and pay back every drop She fetched a case of his fav’rite kind Found him passed out and lost her mind She doused every room, lit a match and telephoned the cops And she watched that whiskey burn In the Coahoma sun Renee was cryin’ he’ll never learn No, he’s never gonna learn And she watched that whiskey burn ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/coreyparkman_music.htm [This message has been edited by Corey (edited 06-15-2005).]

Terrific Corey, from beginning, through the middle and right to the end. Great story!

This does have the same theme as Independence Day-abused wife torches house and husband. I read that Gretchen Peters had the chorus (and what a great one it is) complete and spinning in her head long before she even knew what the song was going to be about.
Corey, I think you have a good story and a good hook but if there is anyway you can make that chorus soar like the one in Independence day, then you have something.

Thanks NC. I'm seeing this more as an outlaw or alt-country type song, so I'm not sure a big chorus would fit. And yeah, Independence Day is a killer song - one of the few Martina McBride songs I'll listen to anytime.

Thanks Scotty. No need to be depressed... it's all made up. Well, I'm sure something similar has happened, but I didn't experience it. Glad you stopped by for the read.
