SONGPITCH for FILM and TV
with RODNEY GORDY of OPUS ONE MUSIC LIBRARY and JEFF FREUNDLICH of WILD WHIRLED MUSIC

admission: $20 members (ASA or NSAI) $25 non members

Looking for master quality recordings to pitch for tv and movies.

Rodney is looking for HIP HOP-- MUSIC TRACKS ONLY (no vocals)

JEFF is looking for TRADITIONAL COUNTRY and LATIN HIP HOP/LATIN RAP (vocals & non vocals)

Please bring a lyric sheet for the songs you are pitching to wild whirled.

If you have a song you want heard, bring it on CD, with a lyric sheet for the Country songs. Uptempo or mid tempo are easier to get placed, but if your best is a ballad, feel free to bring that. For film & tv, your demo needs to be a master quality recording, and you need to own the rights to the master. (You need to be able to get the vocalists and players, etc., to sign off that they have been paid for their work on the recording). Try to think of a song that would work in lots of different situations on screen.

One song per writer, but you can sign-in an additional co-written song (with admission fee) for your co-writer if they can not make the meeting.

Rodney Gordy has over twenty years’ entertainment industry experience with emphasis in music publishing and creative marketing/sales. Rodney began his career at Motown Records’ respected Jobete Music Publishing company where he placed songs with numerous rock, pop and R&B artists, including the multi-platinum “Sweet Love”, recorded by Anita Baker and many others. Rodney went on to become President of Avatar Publishing Group and has held positions at Sony and MTV. He is currently a Manager with Opus 1 Music Library.

Opus 1 Music Library represents 17 distinctly different music catalogs and record labels from around the world, totaling more than 150,000 music tracks on over 3,000 CDs. Our music ranges from classical masterpieces to the most contemporary beats and sounds, all with full length and cutdown/alternate versions. You can hear our music in a number of productions including The Sixth Sense, Austin Powers 3, Lilo & Stitch, Big Fish, and Elektra, television series like West Wing, The Bernie Mac Show, and The Osbournes, and commercials for the Gap and Cingular, among others. Since its beginning in 1998, Opus1 has become the fastest growing music library company in the world.

IBMA Songwriter Showcase Announced

Deadline to Submit Tapes: May 2, 2005

Good songs are the heart and the future of any musical genre and IBMA will once again focus attention on 10 selected songwriters and their material during the World of Bluegrass Convention to be hosted in Nashville, Tenn., October 24-30, 2005. The exact date and time of the Songwriter Showcase, sponsored by ASCAP, will be announced in a future issue of International Bluegrass.

The IBMA Songwriter Showcase is not a contest. Its purpose is to present new, original bluegrass songs to artists, producers and record label reps looking for new material, as well as to other industry reps in the audience. Both veteran and novice songwriters are invited and encouraged to submit tapes. Songwriters who presented original material at past IBMA Songwriter Showcases are not prohibited from submitting a tape again for this year, but they should present different songs.

IBMA Songwriter Showcase Application Procedure:

Submit a cassette or CD of two original songs to: IBMA Songwriter Showcase; #2 Music Circle South, Suite #100; Nashville, TN 37203.

DEADLINE: May 2, 2005. Tapes and CDs will not be returned. It is not necessary to submit a highly produced song demo. A vocal with a guitar is fine. Typed song lyrics are appreciated. There is no form to fill out, and no application fee to submit a tape for consideration for the IBMA Songwriter Showcase.

Selection Criteria:

Songs must be.

* Original works or co-written by the person who submits the tape

* Unpublished, or not previously recorded by a major bluegrass act or a major act from another genre.

Songs will be chosen on the basis of their.

* Representation of the bluegrass genre

* Potential appeal (Are they likely to draw the interest of recording bluegrass artists, and to get airplay by bluegrass broadcasters?)

* Quality of work (lyrics, melody)

* Entertainment value.

The popular Song Demo Listening Sessions will continue at World of Bluegrass 2005, during which a panel of respected industry reps listen to a new bluegrass song and comment on it. To participate in this event, you must be registered for the IBMA Convention. Drop a CDR or cassette of one original bluegrass song into the large box on the long table at the front of the room 15 minutes before the Song Demo Listening Session begins, along with four copies of your lyrics (attached). Songs will be picked at random during the Demo Listening session.

If you have additional questions, contact Nancy Cardwell at the IBMA

office: (888) 438-4262, nancyc@ibma.org.
