I am interested in starting a chapter in Gainesville, Florida.

I did not notice any mention of an existing Gainesville chapter, and would be interested in more information regarding what I can do to participate as a chapter coordinator.

Would it be acceptable for our chapter to function as a musician/artist forum and meet weekly to share original work?

Sarasota is about an hour south of Tampa and across the state from Gainsville. Ive tried to get ahold of Chris in Sarasota but get all mails back. Do you have new contact info for him or is someone else stepping up.

Hi Jean,

Thank you for sending the information as promised. I am reviewing your e-mail and trying to determine whether I would be a good choice to apply for chapter contact or coordinator. In the meantime, I will spread the word. I know of three people who would be interested at this time.

I understand from the regulations that we would need 10 members, and Gainesville is far enough from Sarasota that driving to meetings there would be difficult.

I stepped up and started a chapter in Tampa Bay this past February and have had great success. Other artists only need someone to rally around that is determined. If your going forward the rewards are endless, you'll make contacts and friends you would have never come in contact with.
Im just down the road and will help in any way I can. Please see the Tampa Message Board to see the interaction and consider visiting our September 28th meeting and showcase. You won't be dissapointed and you can see Tampa Bay JPF in action.

Thanks to you both for your encouragement and kind words. The band and I have been keeping busy preparing for two shows this weekend. If we are not totally wiped on Sunday, Sept. 28, we may just hop down to Tampa!

I have researched meeting spaces, and a wonderful organization called the Civic Media Center in downtown Gainesville www.civicmediacenter.org would be willing to host.

I plan to respond to Jean asap to see whether I meet the criteria to help get this chapter off the ground.

Thanks Cris, I guess that makes us mutual fans, 'cause I love yours too. One of the great things about JPF is meeting other artists on a level of mutual respect. I have made some great friends here in Tampa as well as on our Atlanta roadtrip. Keep in touch Darlin' we'll help any way we can.

My bass player and I headed to Tampa yesterday (wish we'd hit the lotto, but we were fortunate enough to have paying gigs this past weekend!) What a great group! Lots of talent and generous, music-loving personalities. We felt very welcome and gained insight into the way JPF chapters function.

It was a wonderful experience. We are looking forward to a successful Gainesville chapter!
