I recorded this as a solo/acoustic thing a couple of years ago, but knew that it needed more. I finally gave it more and am very happy with it. Would love to hear what you all think, though. https://hoponpop.bandcamp.com/track/we-made-it-to-the-middle-2Thanks!

Also, I made it a free (name your price) download. Just want people to make the song a part of their lives; that's why I'm doing this whole thing. Hoping that you do and that you like the song. Thanks.

Hey Todd...so my initial thought before I hit play, was oh geez a 5 minute song, let's see how long this thing keeps my attention. Surprisingly, I didn't cut it off, and I'm glad I didn't. I absolutely loved the production and the chorus in particular. Had to listen twice lol. Pretty much enjoyed everything about this track. Thanks for sharing! -TK

I know what you mean about 5-minute songs! I'm a 2:30-3:30 guy normally -- very pop. But, this one just had to go until it was done. Don't think there's anything superfluous. (Hell, it's only 2 verses, really.) And, thank you so much for listening and taking the time to comment on it, Tim. I'm so glad that you liked it.

Hi PT:
The song is somewhat prophetic... and I mean that in a very good way. I'm reminded of the songs of so many great "folk" singers from the recent past. (A few are still around, thankfully!)
I know you are a performer so your objective with the song is probably to further your career... much as I would do if I had that ability and drive. As a songwriter (who tries to sing) I would probably find a top notch demo artist and pitch this thing 'til the cows come home. It has that quality... and yes, a trifle long for commercial radio... but hey, it's your song... and I sure don't need to tell you how to sing it... or how long it needs to be.
Congratulations on a memorable song. (That's about the highest compliment I can make as I use "Brian's Rule!")
Best of luck with it.
Dave

Dave Very cool. Dave! Thanks! I was thinking of pitching it, but I really don't know to whom. Who is the type of singer that would sing a song like this? In my furtive, abortive flirtations with the whole thing, I've come to realize that I just don't know the market that well.

Todd:
I would be in the same boat if I wrote a "showstopper" song. If we don't have connections... or connection to people with connections in the biz... it all becomes a crapshoot. The market is overcrowded and dominated by kids spending Daddy's money... and most of them would not know a good song if it slapped them right in the kisser. Apple dominates the MP3 market with an iron hand although the final shot in that aspect has probably not been fired yet.
I would not start to pitch your song in Nashville. Maybe LA or even NYC... but how do you get past the "gate guards?" At least LA would normally be warm weather. One thing for sure... avoid the big contest shows (Idol and others) 'cause they would tie up your song with a contract that would require a team of specialist lawyers to interpret... LOL!
Julio Iglesias would absolutely do a killer version of this song but he's probably not even singing anymore. A guy with a "Jack Jones" vocal would be perfect and there are several still active... then there are tons of folk artists but they are pretty much unreachable.
If I run across someone I'll do my best to get them to contact you... or vice-versa.
Regards and best wishes,
Dave

Dave I actually do have a couple of high school friends who are now writers in Hollywood, and a couple have had scripts produced for prime time shows. Not really sure what kind of sway they hold, as writers. But, maybe they could hook me up with somebody who might have some sort of say. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey again, Todd:
If I've inspired you in any way... that makes my day! Since you mentioned LA... there is a JPF guy out there who may have some connections to share with you. Check with Gregory Watton and see if he will give it a listen... then, if he thinks it is as good as the two of us, maybe he will aim you in the right direction.
Happy hunting, my friend.
Dave

Todd,
I can see why you like this, I like it to. It kept my attention throughout as well. Nice melody in particular. Dave had some good ideas perhaps worth exploring--good luck!

Hey there Todd,
I seem to remember this one from the Lyric Forum, and I while I might have had some reservations about the length at the time, the musicated version is terrific. As had been said, the 5 minutes zoomed right by.
Still loving that hook too!
Very nicely done. Good luck with it....
Cheers, Beth

Cheers, Beth And, thank you, Beth! "The 5 minutes zoomed by," is a great thing to hear! I always worry about that when I have a longer song.

Hey Todd ever hear of THE THE?
Your vocal is similar in some places. The song reminds me of them a little bit too. Pretty cool.
Nice song. Sounds pretty good to me.

This sounds very good. I could imagine it on a TV show where the lyrics might fit a situation. At least think about putting it in a music library. Don't worry about the length. Unless it's being considered for top forty radio (extremely unlikely), nobody is going to care. For TV they would just use what they want.

Listened, and liked!
I was also reading the comments, and was thinking the same thing as some others mentioned; I can really hear this in a movie soundtrack or television show. You may want to think about having a strong female voice singing it? Just a thought, and I'm biased (I love female singers LOL)
Consider pitching it outside of Nashville!
