{4 Lines, Actually... Penned 'way back in '67...that kinda shaped my life, tho were cruelly-prophetic..as far as it's Author was concerned:}
"I've got my own life to live I'm the one who's gonna have to die When it's time for me to die So let me live my life the way I want to"

Sunday Morning Coming Down is one of my favorite songs. As for me, would be "our laws favor the rich, so it appears" because that line says it all when it comes to politics.

You know, there's a ton of lines from many songs I've thought to myself, "Damn, that's genius! I wish I thought of that!"
The reality is, I'm glad I didn't because I can take hats off to their genius. :-)
I've also written many lines of my own that other people think are genius. So it goes both ways. How about you guys? What's your favorite line you've ever written?

Wysha,
I think the line should be "the laws favor the powerful, who can become rich and enslave the poor with lies which will keep them wasting what little power they actually have by voting the liars back into power over and over again while giving up more and more of their liberty!" That sums it up for me.
But this isn't a political post. So when it comes to lyrics, I stick with anything that moves me. And that can be a lot of things, depending on my mood and life circumstances. I remember in 5th grade I came home and was sad about leaving my friends and teachers and never seeing them again and heard the song "Magic" on the radio and it made me cry so every time I hear that song I remember that day and feel a tiny tinge of loss of that innocence. I think lyrics can move you in unexpected and unintended ways which other people could never understand. So an innocent little pop song by former Bay City Rollers and produced by Alan Parsons in a band called Pilot (and later in one of my faves The Alan Parson's Project) still gets me when others would wonder why in the heck that was? That's why music is so special to humans. And so MAGICAL... = )

The song that has that line in is a Christy Moore song called They Never Came Home. Could come up with other lines too, and another one that I wish I'd written, would have to be "a song for the two hearts, beating only as one", from John Denver's song, A Song For All Lovers (one of the few that I've heard that was written after I was born)

I can't wish that I wrote this because I didn't, so why wish? I like masculine, descriptive lines like from "Pancho And Lefty"
"..now you wear your skin like iron, your breath as hard as kerosene.."

"I want to hold your hand" Classic! but isn't it 'I wanna hold your hand' I mean, this caliber of a line humbly tendered to mankind by the Beatles, we gotta give them the respect due to get it right ! Pat Hardy
