I've heard it called a "false triplet." It's the backbone of the Beguine. That Old Black Magic. Dotted Quarter, Dotted Quarter, Quarter. One and two, And three and, Four and. It's very New Orleans, very Cuban. My only lesson slapping the bass was Pluck slap slap, Pluck slap slap, Pluck slap. You guys use it? Like it? Hate it? Anectdotes? Is That Old Black Magic a beguine Mike? I would have thought it was a Hi hat beat type thing. Think that is what it is called anyway. Probably 8/8.. Hang on. I can swing between Old Black Magic and Begin The Biguine singing so I guess it is after all. Looked in my drum and bass books for something like this to no avail so will write it in midi drums and/or bass and see what comes out. Regards. I'm thinking of the Louis Prima intro to it, which plays quarter dot, quarter dot, quarter. Yeah, you could overlay the beguine on it. Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music

Songs whose rhythms are based on the false triplet would include Blue Bayou. There is a famous dance that uses this pattern (beside the beguine...hey, that's a song...Beside the Beguine, beguiled in the ballroom...well, maybe not.) And this dance is...
