His father was a Kenyan scholastic. His mom was white. Does that fit your narrative? Have you done an mp3?

Slavery...hard and touchy subject..my thought...today you can tear down every statue, tear up every piece of paper, and let the future forgive that can be taught...forgetting can not be taught, history..like dna no matter how hard you scrub,,its always gona be.

I don't know IF you are being critical or what? My Grandparents came from Russia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6ewf70bkS8&feature=em-upload_ownerCheck this out that I did this Morning. A LOT of People would go to Broadway to see OBAMA THE MUSICAL (From Lincoln To President of The United States)

So what about his background. The Slave Owners had sex with all the pretty black slaves and in about 50 years from now America will be light brown...

Barry:
I don't believe Martin was being sarcastic, snide or condescending. In your condition, your medications can easily impact your thought process... and you are usually a mild-mannered, polite guy who suffers with a mind-numbing disease that inflicts pain and uncertainly on it's victims. Take the time to explain your anxiety to your physician. You already know my opinion of Obama and the harm I believe he did to this country. Especially in the areas of defense, diplomacy and race relations.
He was directly responsible for the forced passage of the ACA (Obamacare) which only came into being because a Republican Appointed Chief Justice obviously betrayed those who put him in that spot. How he could justify the Government of the United States to be in the insurance business, and approve of fines (taxation) for those who choose not to participate, it totally beyond my normally logical thought process.
I do not post this with disdain for your idea about a musical featuring Barack Obama. True, there would be a few fans and supporters of such a venture... but remember, musicals have been "on the wane" in this country for decades... and because of Mr.Obama's actions (or lack thereof) I would not pay a dime to see him or something about him on Broadway or elsewhere. It does not appear to be a good idea from an investment perspective. (I admire your enthusiasm but suspect, as Martin does, you are being influenced unduly by medication.)
All the best, ----Dave

Well, If you are going to attempt to write a musical you need to have a good concept in your mind or forget it. Not sure but didn't Gershwin write something called Porgy and Bess?

Well George composed the music, but it was based on a 1925 novel by DuBose Heyward. Heyword and Ira wrote the libretto. May be a good idea to read some old novels for ideas/ concepts Barry. John

Hi again, Barry:
Glad to hear your meds are not the perceived problem. Best of luck if you decide to write a musical.
Ray brought up a great musical... Porgy and Bess. Even though I'm a Southerner... my appreciation and enjoyment of this musical is immense. Probably some of the greatest music ever created came out of this. While we are on the subject of Slavery... if I really believed removing all the Confederate Monuments would bring about Racial Harmony, I would tell the proper Authorities to relocate them to a place of dignity where those of us who appreciate the sacrifice they represent could still respect and admire them.
That being said, you can bet your last dollar, if all the monuments are removed... these mindless fools will only move on to another subject which causes them to want attention will suddenly become NEWS. Then all the liberal, traitor news media will worship at their criminal shrine and trumpet their vandalizing, stupid cause to the rest of the nation in hopes that those stupid enough to fall for all this race-baiting crap will follow along, be upset and demand some kind of insane action. That group calling themselves ANTIFA (an acronym for Anti-Fascists) are the same group who vandalized the Campus at Berkley when Ann Coulter was invited to speak. If that is the best our country can do, we are headed down the slippery slope like a well-greased banana. God help us!
Sorry, Barry... for hi-jacking your thread. Even though you express dislike for Trump, I believe he intends to do good and not evil. I certainly don't care for the way he seems to wander "off script" to the chagrin of most of the Republican Party... but he is bound to be frustrated by the one-sided, always negative reporting... no matter what he says.
Regards, ----Dave

Ouch Barry. My punishment seems much greater than my crime. A bit over the top...dont you think? So was the cool aid quip. Your post is not an mp3...therefore incorrectly placed. Also not real well conceived. Hence..my jesting suggestion.

Well, I am here to inform and er what ever the next word is. When you have lived as long as I have you remember things long past. And Dave you are right, If the "bleeps" have 10 things they want you to do, and you do all of them to their complete satisfaction tomorrow they will have 10 more things they want done.
Thanks John for telling us the rest of the story on Porgy and Bess.

Lots of Comments and that was my intentions. Have any of you guys ever had an interest in writing for Musicals? My Interest in OBAMA THE MUSICAL would not be to say if he was a good or lousy President or not. It would be about the Significance of the first Black President after 400 years of Kidnapping Africans and bringing them here as slaves. I believe that is a worthwhile story. ALSO Obama had a Force of Personality that helped him get elected. Things seem to be slipping backwards again and it may be a LONG Time before it happens again. BTW I know many don't like Obama not using the words Radical Muslims and me included BUT he quietly probably killed more Terrorists by Drones than anybody else....HE also was a Class Guy with a Great Personality....BUT He wasn't much better than the last 10 Presidents.....SO.....I LOVE Broadway Musicals. I heard lots of the Songs in Hamilton and wasn't that enthralled BUT IF a Musical Can be made of Alexander Hamilton ( Why Not George Washington Surely Obama The Musical could be made......

Barry, If you have the Moxie to write a Broadway Musical you want to make it modern. The Title I would pick in today's world is FAKE NEWS. You have so much material out there you can't miss!

YEP...Love HIM or Not He had a Lot of Class and The Historical Significance of The First Black President (8) Years....after 400 years of Slavery and about 150 years from Lincoln and the Civil war is important. About half the Country still loves this guy and his wife and that is a Huge Audience to go to Broadway. ALSO As I said A Monster Broadway Musical was About a relatively unknown to most Character about Alexander Hamilton which I found really strange and amazing already. Surly one about Barack Obama would be AS Popular or More. I wouldn't write it in Hip Hop Form though but use More Traditional and Pop type songs.....More to the liking of ALL Americans....It's coming trust me and Probably won't have anything to do with ME or songs I may write...BUT It is a Great Idea. I know most on this site write Country and Pop Songs but it's fun to dream of Something larger. I have the ability to write very catchy melodies and think this would be right up my Alley....OF Course I'm all all alone with this and would need lots of help including Maybe Barack and Michelle....ANY IDEAS?????

One reason Hamilton worked was because so little is known about him today. He was coop-ted by people who, I doubt, are fans of the founding fathers (or confederate statues.) Hamilton was largely a blank slate to a 2017 audience. There was a time when Obama was a blank slate. Not the case anymore. To some, Obama is a quasi-deity. Im sure that plays and musicals about him are being considered by such folks, but the people putting up the money are probably concerned about the current level of divisiveness in the country and the derision that might be directed at Obama the musical...and how that might affect a return.
It would be a large undertaking.
Why hasnt this thread been moved to general discussion?

Hi Barry,
I agree with Martin's assessment, using "Hamilton" as an he does as an example. Much time would need to pass.
I am working on a musical about a small family stuck in their house during a zombie apocalyse, and will probably post a song from it some day soon..
But back to something semi-political..I would LOVE to see a musical that creates fictional characters that vaguely resemble James Carville and Mary Matalin. It totally fascinates me how the power of love can transcend political background, and could be a timely thing to be reminded of, given our current climate. Two political spin doctors, in opposite camps, advising their Presidential candidates, and starting a romantic relationship! I can truly hear the two singing through various "arguments" simultaneously in counterpoint..
Anyway, my two bits..
Mike
