The SMs are the standard, not the best, and are a good mic to have as an every day, fall back use microphone. There are lots of mics out there that are better than the SM57 or SM58, often at a better price as well. I don't own one, nor am I planning on a purchase of any of them unless the price is a "can't refuse" price. Do you mean you do not own one of the better and cheaper mics you refer to? or you do not own an SM.
