You may recall that we did a seminar at the University of Buffalo last year on Producing and Selling Music. I am pleased to report that, due to popular demand, a second seminar is being planned for Sunday April 25, 2010,at the Knox Lecture Hall on the University of Buffalo North ( Amherst ) Campus, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM
The seminar “Producing and Selling Music Part II” is open to the public. Last year we had over 200 musicians, producers, recording engineers, managers, agents, and members of the music faculty of three universities in attendance
The seminar is free of charge again this year due to the generous sponsorship of: The UB Jam Club, The AFofM, A2IM, FOMC, and Just Plain Folks.
This years speakers will include:
Andy Karp – Former Executive Vice President and Head of A&R for Atlantic Records (the guy who signed Kid Rock - among other notable acts)
Armand Petri - Producer of the Goo Goo Dolls, 10,000 Maniacs, Sixpence None The Richer, among others, a graduate of the UB School of Arts Management, and currently adjunct professor of Music Business at the State University of New York at Fredonia/
Alison Pipitone – Successful Indy artist
Casey Rae-Hunter – Communications Director of the Future of Music Coalition and a well known journalist on both mainstream and underground music issues
Stuart Shapiro – Entertainment Law Attorney
John Topper – Manager of the Band, Moe
Some of the subjects planned for the seminar are:
The Status of Record Deals and the Record Industry from the Perspective of the Major Labels, Artist Managers and Indy Artists; The Role of the A&R Representative in Artist Development; Is There any Future for Physical Releases In Light of Digital Release Technology; Band Touring Issues and 360 Deals; Making a Living Through the Development of a Small Dedicated Fan Base; The Changing Role of the Music Producer on the Digital Platform; Production Changes to Suit New Methods of Music Distribution; Copyright Issues in the Digital Age; What’s On the Horizon for Musicians – Performance Rights and Policy Considerations.
