A new member over at the ramp mentioned how she couldn't go to nashville this weekend because she had to watch the dogs. Sounds like a song. I put together a girl version and asked if she wanted to co-write on it (she sings really well!). While I am awaiting her response (I don't know if she thinks she can trust old, married guys), I penned the guy version.

As they say: it is what it is.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that if anyone wants to sing this song better than me (not much of a challenge), I'll send you the backing tracks without the vocals.

Kevin

P.S. What's this thing with SoundClick auto-playing the tune nowadays? Couple of tech glitches here and there -- I'll fix them soon enough. EDIT: I got rid of the autoplay by using the longer url link.

This is Her Weekend (to watch the dogs)
(c) Emmrich 2010 (Guy Version)

(verse)
I wanna go fishing
My ex is bitching
That there's two dogs to watch
I need a vacation
or at least some appreciation
and her lame story doesn't wash

(verse)
I don't really miss her
or the way things were
and she's supposed to keep Delta and Dawn
we wrote it in an agreement
the judge signed and sealed it
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus)
I wish I was out barking
or howling at the moon
or down at Danny's
Buying babes typhoons
but here I am at home
Dog Whisperer on the tube
It must be against the law
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(verse)
I'm gonna call my lawyer
and the National Guard
and when they arrest her, I'll applaud
she thinks she's found a loop hole
but she ain't gonna get parole
this is her weekend to watch the dogs.

(chorus again)

(bridge)
You know Delta and Dawn are sort of sweet
and they love lying by my feet
but Sam just gave a shout,
there are spring break girls all about

(chorus again and tag)

Kevin: Acoustic guitar, vocals
BIAB: Drums, Bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano
Kevin...this is really good....I think Trace Atkins would love this one....really good write....love the howl at the end...good work...Bob

Yo kevin, how is life? Hanging in?

You wrote some FUNNY lyrics here. Amazing.. .but I think, that the music is doin a disservice to the lyrics, I donīt know why. I expected some music that was more uplifting. I am sure when you just sing it with your acoustic guitar itīs a lot of fun... but this way? I am not sure, I think Iīll have to listen again, perhaps the music will grow on me.

But again, the lyrics are cool!! (which means good)

Hey Kevin,

LOL This is so cute!! I really love the music, it's very country and I think your voice sounds very good smile

What a cute song!

Dottie
This is a fun song. You've got some good imagery and descriptive lyrics. I think it could be a crowd favorite when played at live shows.

Hi Kevin,

Your good performance has created a smile here.
Delta & Dawn------GREAT names for the dogs.

Bob: Hey Bob, thanks for stopping by and giving it a listen. I hope all is going well! I had a couple of howls that were better early on -- but I didn't save them! I got a little bit of editing to do.

Martin: I tried to just record as a guitar/vocal, but it was tough to get the pitch right for a new song (and if I am complaining about pitch, you know what that means ...). I needed a click track, so I broke out BIAB and one thing lead to another. I like the music myself, but I like everything I do (ha, ha). Thanks for the comments and I am glad you enjoyed the lyrics.

Dottie: Thanks for visiting and the kind remarks. I think it is a non-country country tune. It is country, but the music is a little bit different.

Carlos: I really plan on working hard at the guitar/vocal version and then playing it out. Hopefully folks will like it. Thanks for stopping by.

Calvin: I was wondering if anyone would mention the Delta Dawn angle (ha, ha). Thanks for reading, listening and commenting.

Kevin
Hey Kev,,,I do agree with Robert ,,Trace Adkins would do this lyric great..Just up his alley..I was very amused with your story...lol,,Very good write

Darlene
Kevin,

I like your voice, what is wrong with a man that can howl at the end of a song...kinda cute if you ask me!!!

I am curious how the lyric changes for the girl version.

I think a few lines are rushed, might need a little trim here and there, but lots of fun!!

Tammy
Darlene: Hey, I used your name in the girl's version! Thanks for stopping by and giving it a listen. Next time you run into Trace, tell him about this song (ha, ha).

Tammy: If you get back here, which lines were rushed? I probably know already, but getting that kind of feedback is useful. I have posted the gal's version below. Thanks for the visit!

Kevin,

Or at least some appreciation

she ain't gonna get parole

Those two stand out for me, I would take the word "some" out.

Thanks for putting up the girl lyric, I was curious what you changed, I think it is cool to have two versions like that!!

I think in the girl version it should be "with" two dog's to watch...just my opinion...

Tammy

Kevin , this is a fun song :-) Well played .

I really enjoyed the listen .

Keep up the good work .

All the best
Jan
Fun lyrics!
Ott
Very funny lyric, Kevin - had me laughing throughout. And yes, great names for the dogs.

I dunno - maybe my mind can be changed - but this really feels like it should be from a guy's point of view. Maybe that means you were very convincing. smile

There were a few lines that I think the phrasing could be smoothed out on - but the story is there smile

Scott
Tammy: Thanks for coming back. I was hoping that the "she ain't gonna get parole" would work -- but I'll look at that and maybe cut the "some". I am open to suggestions on the girl version, so I'll look at that, too.

PapaG: Thanks for stopping by and giving it a spin.

glyn: Thanks for the visit and listen

Jan: Thanks for the kind words and the listen.

Ott: (Hey, I got your name right!) Thanks for stopping by.

Scott: Right now, I think it works better as a guys tune -- but who knows? Maybe if I get a gal to sing it, it will work that way. I am going to give it one more pass vocally and see what happens (in a few days).

Kevin
Ah..makes me Glad To Be a Cat Person..heh-heh!

Really FUN Jewel of a Song, Bro Kev'..& I Howled with Laughter at the Close of This Fine Baby ya got here!

"KUDOS" to You & The Fidos!
Good Luck with it/Them too!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,
Stan
Hey there, Kevin. What a hoot and what a howl. Funny song. Only nit is that (and I can't believe I'm saying this since I routinely get busted for it : ) the drums are a wee bit too compressed (or maybe it's reverb) in the chorus and beat up on the vox just a bit. Clever write, well done.

Cheers!
Scott
Tampa Stan: I am glad you like that little howl at the end -- It was a fun song to write and do. The guitar/vocal only version needs a lot of practice, but it will be one of my icebreaker songs to do live.

Scott: I don't have control over the drum compression, but I'll check and see if I added any reverb. When you get beat up on something, you always tend to notice those things in other people's work. Thanks for stopping by and giving it a listen.

Kevin
Hi Kevin

Fun idea and your playing is always impressive. jm
A good fun song, Kevin. I felt that the vocal was perhaps a little too quiet relative to the instrumentation considering that that the words are important in this piece.

I love the clattering drum style on this. Great snare sound.
Joice: Thanks for the visit and listen.

Steve: You are probably right. I don't have much vocal "power", but I can probably bump the dB a little. I have a couple things to fix, so I'll try that, too. I mix under headphones (and cheap ones, at the moment), so the vocal always sounds too loud to me -- so I tend to turn it down even though I know it is a "false" signal. Oh well.

Hey Kevin, custody of those two, comes with a pooper scooper, no pampers anywhere in sight. You've got to get the dogs howling on this one in the background, as if you can't even record a song, cause the ex left you a Delta to wade across till Dawn...lol~~~MFB III
MFB: ha, ha -- thanks for stopping by and giving it a spin.
