Many of you probably already know of this but I have been bombarded lately by spammers signing our guestbook and leaving links to sex sites, gambling sites, medication sites and just about every other spam sites that are typically sent through email.

If you have a guestbook, check it regularly to weed out any unwanted posts...

Just thought I'd bring that up...

This is why I have spam filters on my signup forms and for my blog. I don't have a guestbook on my websites for that very reason.

Hey Von, I had exactly the same problem - trouble was I was away from home. It was terrible, posting about really offensive things like rape - just awful. I had to go in and change my settings so I have to approve of every entry before they get posted. It's so very sad we have to do this but those people are so sick.

Yep, me too. I've dropped guestbooks from the 2 sites I run. I switched to forum boards instead--which actually work better and are more fun . So far I haven't had any spam problems.

Yea I'm quite sick of those spammers as well. I still have a guestbook but clicked the option to "approve post" before it goes up.

Very frustrating - we've had the same problem and are in the process of deleting a Yahoo Group for that very reason.

Also, can anyone tell me about these 2 new types of spam I've been getting. The 1st type is where the message itself is scrambled & to the right side in small fonts are various letters. I'm pretty sure this scrambling technique makes it possible for the message to get through my filters..
The second type is where the message font almost kind of 'dissolve's into a message, it's a split second but I can tell it's happening.. almost like a gif ( although I my browser/ email are set not to accept any pics/ cookies at all)

Anyone know about these new types & how to keep them from getting through?..
