The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.

It's the New Year, so let's have a song that deals with New Year's Resolutions. It doesn't have to actually have the phrase "New Year" or "Resolution" in it but the lyrics should revolve around that that central theme of wanting, wishing or deciding to make some changes in one's life. It's up to you what those changes might be. The song could also be about past changes - it's up to you.

Have fun!

I think this one fits , although it is a few months old now. I will try for a brand new one too! The lyrics are on the Bandcamp page.

Time For Change Copyright © 2010 Colin Ward

V1
I'm out of time and I don't know why,
I feel you drifting out of my life,
You're getting lost in your other world,
While I'm left sitting on the side

Chorus
Time for change
It's time for a change
Time for change
Time for me to rearrange,
My life

V2
The days you spend earning your coin
Keep you too far away from home,
I miss the sun shining on your blond hair,
You seem like someone I used to know

Chorus
Time for change
It's time for a change
Time for change
Time for me to rearrange,
My life

Bridge
You need to find another gig
There's plenty here for you to do
Or would you rather be away from me,
And cut the ties, admit that we are through

Chorus
Time for change
It's time for a change
Time for change
Time for me to rearrange,
My life

Hi Jean,

In archives Jean. This lonely lyric needs an uptempo Contemporary Country or Pop melody. Any melody cowriters interested????

ďResolutionsĒ (progressive Chorus)(female vocal/sassy)
(c)2010 Lynn Orloff

Another year is over
But I ainít lookiní back
You had my heart I will admit
Iíll surely give you that
Yeah baby you were usiní me
You didnít treat me right
Shame on you to break my heart
Itís just not real polite
Lift
Iíve got some resolutions, infact I got a list
I thought youíd like to hear emí, they go somethiní like thisÖ

I resolve to never fall for someone just like you
I resolve youíll never hear me singiní out the blues
Yes I resolve to uninvolve my heart from loviní yours
Cause baby you canít use my heart like some revolviní door

Donít think that Iím a losiní sleep
Cause you ainít worth the zzzzís
Iím gonnaí dot my iís this time
Iíll even cross my tís
Yeah I wonít make the same mistake
I'll take my sweet ole' time
The word is out, Iím fancy free
The guys have formed a line
Lift
Iíve got me resolutions, so many thereís a list
Iíll read em' to you one by one, they go somethiní like thisÖ

I resolve to tell the world that youíre not worth the time
I resolve to not forget that sometimes love is blind
Yeah I resolve to have some fun and when Iím done have more
Cause baby you canít use my heart like some revolviní door

Bridge
Don't even try to win me back
You're sure to get the boot
You'll find my will is stronger now
Just call me resolute

(Cause) I resolve to listen to the wisdom of my friends
Who told me that I shouldnít even look at you again
Yeah itís goodbye, good riddinís, this time Iím really sure
Cause baby you canít use my heart like some revolviní door

This was actually a 50/90 "skirmish" lyric written in August. The challenge was to write something within 60 minutes, and having the title hook "divine decline". I ended up with a kind of rock-gospel effort. wink I think the "moral" of the story might fit the context of the "Resolutions" challenge. (And yes, I did get teased because of my name. grin )

Divine, Decline

(v1)
Lots of ways to lead a life
Thereís a high road and a low
Some folks take a fast track
Others take things slow
But in the end we all decide
The way our souls will go

Chorus
Brothers, letís get into shape
Back to basic morals
Stop the madness in the world
The pettiness, the quarrels
We need to make some choices
And weíre running out of time
So a handy rule to live by is
If itís not divine, decline

(v2)
Let's choose friends that lift us up
Doing different is unwise
Smile at a lonely stranger
See the trust in a babyís eyes
Offer to help someone in need
Be the angel in disguise

Chorus
Sisters, letís get into shape
Back to basic morals
Stop the madness in the world
The pettiness, the quarrels
We need to make some choices
And weíre running out of time
So a handy rule to live by is
If itís not divine, decline

Bridge
Enough room for everyone
But attitudes need to change
Having a heaven here on earth
Isnít out of our range
A little give, a little take
A little love exchange

Chorus
People, letís get into shape
Back to basic morals
Stop the madness in the world
The pettiness, the quarrels
We need to make some choices
And weíre running out of time
So a handy rule to live by is
If itís not divine, decline
