Hi Folks!
This challenge is from Lynn.

"This challenge is to take the “To All The Girls I Loved Before” ( written by Hal David and Albert Hammond, and covered by Willie Nelson) and write a new lyric trying to keep as close to possible to the format, meter, etc. but make it a parody. Here is the link to the lyric[/color] so you can see the format and rhyme structure. Looks like it’s two verses, refrain, two verses, refrain, two verses. There is currently a parody of such over on the MP3 board called “To All The Trout” posted by Darrell Lee which gave me the idea. HAVE FUN!!

To All the Girls

Thanks Jean! Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful! Here goes my contribution. Folks can use it to see the structure, rhyme scheme, meter, etc. They do say it's a good exercise to take an existing lyric and rewrite words to fit. Let's get lyrically limber!! smile

“To All The Foods I Loved Before”
(c)2010 Lynn Orloff

To all the foods I loved before
Although you haven’t lost your lure
The burgers, shakes and fries
I somehow must deny
To all the foods I loved before

To all the tasty treats I ate
It seems now that I can’t partake
The doctor’s telling me
Cholesterol’s at it’s peak
From all the tasty treats I ate

This food affair must end so quickly
The wife is checking my receipts
She knows the cash I spend at restaurants
And other places that I eat

To all those donuts, wings and such
I hope you know I’ll miss you much
Although you’re not forgot
My bloodwork’s not so hot
Please know you haven’t lost your touch

To all the late night pizza runs
We sure did have our share of fun
And Burger King at two
Is suddenly taboo
It seems those nights are all but done

This food affair must end so quickly
The wife is checking my receipts
She sees the cash I spend at restaurants
And other places that I eat

To all those yummy Tasty Cakes
Raw vegetables must take your place
And if I try to sneak
The kitchen floor will squeak
It seems that I can’t have my way

To all those sundaes topped with cream
You’re now reserved for bedtime dreams
My wife is now in charge
She says my belly’s large
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna’ scream

Verse-

To all the Earls she's loved before,
plus Dukes and Kings....
to keep from being poor,
Princes and Presidents,
till it was evident,
her lonely heart
it needed more.

verse 2-

Her name was
Ella Cinder and...
mom begged that she
should find a wealthy man,
but the glass slippers she wore
helped reflect the pain she bore,
and so she joined a peasant clan.

Refrain-

She met a Gypsy guitar player,
his eyes like coals with diamond gleams,
his muscled arms in dances swayed her,
his lips held answer to her dreams.

verse 3-

She gave up
all her finest silk,
trading fines wines
for tin cups of goats milk,
dressed in dyed flour sacks,
with her tent upon her back,
she wandered and ....
learned ways to bilk.

verse 4-

The rich marks from their coins of gold,
with lustful eyes watching
her skirts unfold
till she found the wealth she'd missed,
leaving hungry men unkissed,
she was a temptress to behold.

Refrain-

Soon she was
the Queen of Gypsies,
and made that guitar man her king,
they both got rich from men grown tipsy,
on the gypsy whiskey she would bring.

verse 5-

The last I heard
she was doing great,
with 10 kids living
on a vast estate,
bigger then those palace walls,
where she once followed the calls,
of less rich men seeking a mate.

verse 6-

Surrounded by ten Gypsy clans,
who all were welcomed to her land,
in mansions they all own,
they all call that place their home.
because she'd found her perfect man...
