The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.

I was unable to post a timely challenge about Mothers, so let's try for Fathers.
The theme should be about Fathers. It could be a positive, uplifting song but it doesn't have to be. You choose. Use any song form or genre you want, but the song should be clearly about a specific father, fathers or fatherhood in general. Good luck to you.
Hi Jean, I just happen to have one that fits the bill. It's a father/daughter story song. smile I can picture a real sweet video for this...

"There's A Rainbow After All The Rain"
Country/male vocal
(c)2010 Lynn Orloff

He stood outside her bedroom door
It broke his heart to hear her cry
Said "honey let your daddy in"
Through her tears she asked him "why"
He said "I know just what you're goin' through
Cos I've felt that pain before
So sweetheart won't you let me in"
Then she unlocked the door

He sat beside her on the bed
Used his shirt to dry her eyes
It wasn't somethin' he could fix
With some sweet lullaby
She wasn't just a little girl who fell and scraped her knee
It seems her beau had broke her heart
The kind of cut that's deep

Lift
Then he put his arm around her said "now listen up awhile
I know that life ain't always fair" and as he tried to make her smile, he said..

Chorus
Sometimes there's hurt, sometimes there's pain
But darlin' there's a rainbow after all the rain
He broke your heart, tore it in two
But there's a reason things turn out the way they do

Then he shared with her some stories
Ones she never heard before
And it wasn't long till she broke a smile
The one he so adored
Then he said "hey how bout ice cream, heck we'll grab a movie too"
And she said "sure Dad that sounds good
Did I tell you I love you"

Lift
Then he put his hand in hers and said "in time you'll understand
I promise this will turn out right, see the good Lord's got His plans"..

Sometimes there's hurt, sometimes there's pain
But sweetheart there's a rainbow after all the rain
He broke your heart, tore it in two
But there's a reason things turn out the way they do

Bridge
He said "ya know I had a someone once and she ripped my heart in shreds
But thank God that she did cos me and mom might not have met
And I wouldn't be here now, and you wouldn't be my girl
It's because of you and mom that I'm the luckiest guy in the world"..

Final Chorus
Sometimes there's hurt, sometimes there's pain
But darlin' there's a rainbow after all the rain
Sometimes hearts break, it's sad but true
But there's a reason things turn out the way they do
A real good reason things turn out the way they do
Here's a video I made of Mike Siegel performing our co-write "My Father's Hands"
