Hello everyone. I'm a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist guy from NY. I mostly write folk-ish (or alt-folk?) stuff and piano ballads. I've been making music for a long time. Always happy to find like-minded people to share it with

Hello to everyone.
New member from the New York area checking in. I create vintage 80s/90s electronic pop tunes with the primary purpose of gaining exposure through synch/licensing opportunities. In addition, I manage a tiny independent record company through which I distribute music by other artists as well as my own (usually also produced by me).
In any case, hi! I'm hoping to meet some other songwriters, producers, engineers, and even even publishers!
Thanks

Hi all, I'm introducing myself. My name is Christian. I'm 63 years old. I live in France. I've been teacher during 37 years. And since I'm retired, I'm making music several hours a day. I'm using my guitar to compose and Band-in-a-Box to arrange my songs. Musical regards

Thanks, Brian, for your warm welcome. I would like to know in which forum I have to post if I want to propose some music looking for lyrics (and then a singer) ? Christian

Hello, I am new here. I have been writing songs since the age of 16. Many times, I have actually thrown my songs away, thinking it would never happen, but I had them online on a website years ago and got my babies back. I will never get rid of them again. Going to keep writing and keep believing!

That's good to hear. John Lennon, who did a little song-writing himself, lamented 'throwing away' a lot of stuff he wrote as a young boy, young man, and posed the question, "Who was I to judge?" As the song-writer you are the first listener. You make all kinds of judgment calls, and 'complete' your song. Maybe some of your decisions were limited by your experience, shaped by your tastes, flawed by your inexperience, but each was a learning experience influencing the next one you wrote. The electronic world is often an annoyance, but it's good to hear that you were able to retrieve your works, thanks to the internet. My philosophy is that there will always be another song to be written. Despite thousands of years of song-writing we have not exhausted the possibilities. Someone will write a great new song and we'll all hear it and many of us will declare it a great new song. So why not you? As long as you keep reaching for your instruments, and exploring what your mind can do with notes and chords and words and tempos and percussion, the possibilities are endless. Welcome MusicGirl971. And tell #s1 through 970 and 972 on to stop by and explore JustPlainFolks!

Thanks so much for approving me. I'm yet to learn a lot from this site. But learned of it from CJ Watson's book Everything Songwriting. Thank you.

Hi everyone! I’m Beth, I’m 50 years old (gasp!) and I’ve been singing since I was a child. I’ve never had voice lessons or formal training (I’ve sung in choirs) but I just love to sing! I really just sing casually I guess, for my own pleasure. I hope to get some feedback and/or comments. Thank you for having me.

Howdy yall,
I'm trying to make another comeback in the music industry after celebrating my 5 year wedding anniversary on May 5th. I live near the Philadelphia area. I'm a lyricist that's looking to co-write with melody writers/producers in the Christian and Country market with an occasional pop song here and there. I have 1 song on hold with a Southern Gospel trio and another country song being represented with a reputable Nashville music publisher. I already posted looking for collaborations. It's great to be back.

Hi JPF, I'm not really new but I've been away long enough I felt I should say hello before coming in and getting comfortable. I'm a lyrics and melody guy only, I have three guitars and can't play any of them, not sure what's wrong the guitars lol. Welcome back Barry! Best, John

Hello... Just joined the forum today, thank you Brian for sorting that for me👍🏻
I'm a lyricist and songwriter, anyone interested in collaborating have a listen to some of my songs on SoundCloud, user; Jack Colton and the dulcet tones. I might be a little slow in responding as I'm currently working on a project, but always open to working with new artists.

Hello everyone! Or I should say, hello again! I had an older account here a LONG time ago (ok, maybe more like 10 years ago! :P) but I stopped using it because I had a lot going on and also, I do music under my real name now (I was under a pseudonym before) Basically, I'm Cecilee and I'm a singer/songwriter from the East Coast. I play piano, a little bit of guitar, and I also sing. I would consider my music to be alternative piano pop. If you like the alternative singer/songwriters like Charlotte Martin, Christine and the Queens, or even Kate Bush, my stuff is up your alley! I also perform regularly on Twitch! On Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons, I'm live on my channel playing my own music as well as various cover songs! You can check that out here! Good to be back here! I've missed coming here and nice to be here as myself!

Hi everyone,
Long time lurker / plain folk here. I've read almost every thread back to back and have massive admiration for those here. I write, co-write, mix, produce and record. Right now, I run another unrelated business because it pays the bills, but the thought never leaves my mind if I should be taking bigger plunges in the sea of the music industry. No risk, no reward, right? As most of you, it started out for fun in my youth then morphed into dreams of grandeur. So I put the cart before the horse and invested a serious amount of investment into the business end of it - almost regrettable amounts. I learned a lot but setting the bar so very high for so many years took the joy out of it, and I'm trying to repair my relationship with the music again: literally not focusing on business, connections, or networking anymore and just sitting in my studio writing and producing songs in solace for now. Egos, drama and physical losses over the past two decades has burnt me out. Lawsuits to protect your property are no fun. I've been there and though I've come out on top, it was always a grueling process - leaving me more paranoid of the industry, each time. I've been drifting ever since and not sure if I'm throwing in the towel, but I'm close.

"Just Plain Folks is like a plow. A plow is a tool that can be used to help feed thousands of hungry people. But there are two groups of people on the planet. One group of people realizes that for the plow to help feed people, they must actually USE the plow to prepare the field to grow the food to feed the people. The second group of people are the ones who stand and stare at the plow and wait for the food to drop out of it. Of course that group is much smaller because those people all eventually starve to death." –Brian Austin Whitney
