Hi folks, Swinging by here to alert lyricists and musicians to a new tool that will change the face of demo making, making good demos at the drop of a hat, and all that the creator needs to do is specify, in a written prompt, what is wanted in said demo. Here's a Country Music snippet: https://www.udio.com/songs/coixNX1gnJ1oWT8z2LQddkEverything you hear was created in Udio. Lyricists will be happy to know that custom lyrics, your lyric, can be inserted as part of a written prompt; but the AI fairs just as well by simply telling it the kind of lyric and theme you want. Using Udio is easy. A third grader could figure it out. Results range from "meh" to "fantastic" and "good" seems to be average. The online AI software creates in 32 second increments and lets the user extend a song up to 5 minutes or so. This effectively replaces competes with "good" demo makers and demos like the kind I used to make. It will not replace a $500-1000 demo in that the audio quality (so far) is not as good as one can get from a good recording studio and staff. Content wise? I am impressed with the music and vocals (and lyrics) it creates and I think you will be too! I can imagine this could be an invaluable tool for the Couches and FDemetrios among us. Is this cheating? I am not posting this to start a debate, but I can understand how AI like this can produce passionate responses both positive and negative. All I can say is, isn't curation really a form of creation? Udio works by giving you two choices--it creates two 32 second samples at-a-time, and you choose which one you like or reject both and start over, not to mention you kick off the whole process by specifying exactly what you want with written words. In working/creating this way, one guides the song towards the specific vision of the creator. To me, a tool like this is fantastic and will truly aid lyricists who have a musical "vision" but not the means to see that vision fulfilled. At least swing by their site and check out what others are doing with it, after only a few days of Udio being available to the public: https://www.udio.com/Also, there are already several good tutorials up on youtube... One drawback may be...in an extended song...how well can it retain the form of earlier sections? This has been the main bane with other music AI up to now. This Americana-sounding-song seems to retain the same form from beginning to end: https://www.udio.com/songs/jGjYfsRosZjYTkSBdFgEyFOh, and BTW....it is absolutely FREE, for the time being, while it is in "beta"...... Cheers, Mike

Dom... I prompted Udio with this: a song with the form of verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, outro, about a man named Ehf DeMeetrio from New Jersey who frequents an online lyric forum and cracks wise with other members, often being a pain-in-the-ass but having some endearing qualities too. The singer should have a raw, gravelly texture that reflects years of experience and emotion. His vocal range is impressive, often spanning from a deep, low resonant baritone to powerful, raspy high Dom, note: you can't name specific artists, but as you can see, I was describe your hero's voice...--and got these two initial 32 sec samples: https://www.udio.com/songs/eXspAq4p3bzCyWeS7D7bQz[Verse 1] Ehf from Jersey, screen's glowin’ bright Thumbs flyin' fast, keystrokes light up the night He’s tossin' barbs in the forum's ring A devil with words, his sarcasm stings [Verse 2] But DeMeetrio's got a heart beneath Cracks in his armor, gold lies underneath https://www.udio.com/songs/iZTgVXwaupFvQmTadjCsgCCruisin' down the digital streets (Streets so wild) Ehf DeMeetrio with his wise-crack feats (Jersey child) Typing fast, his humor's vast, a lightning storm Online bard, his words so hard, they break the norm In the forum's glow he takes the stage (On the screen) Throwing jabs in every post with cunning age (Virtual scene) This took three minutes processing time. Took me longer to write the prompt. Udio wrote the words and music. I could theoretically expand on these two initial snippets, both forward and backwrd, prompting it for a chorus, etc...I think you get the idea...

Oh here are the versions I could hear potential in https://www.soundclick.com/fdmuzik/?content=songsNotice how my lyric sometimes gets cut up And moved around She Fell Down In my dream she was there A hard angel in blue At a gala somewhere She was passin on through She attracted the light Like a magazine page When the moment arrived She walked up on a stage And she fell down.... Yeah she fell down I really wish shed fall down Wasn't sure what I'd seen Shook the cobwebs and strange Things don't happen like this Not to her unexplained And she fell down Yeah, she fell down I really wish shéd fall down I really wish shed fall down I really wish shed fall to the ground I'd pick her up and kiss her If she fell dowm If we're here with a plan She was out here for man Life comes easy to her Like the palm of your hand Now, she's only a face Didn't know her too well Through the city I'd chase Only hope if she fell And she fell down Yeah, she fell down I really wish shéd fall down I really wish shed fall down I really wish shed fall to the ground I'd pick her up and kiss her If she fell dowm

I like it!
The "jumping around" might occur...and I'm just guessing...might be cuz you asked it to sing too much lyric for the 32 second sample.
I set a Wordsworth poem and only fed it a verse at a time, and it gave me back verbatim, the words I fed it, then extended it w/the next part of the lyric, repeat, rinse...
So maybe just feed it less of the entire lyric, then add the next part of your lyric using the "extend" feature, and only write, in the "custom lyrics box" the NEXT part of the lyric that you want sung? Worked for me.
FD. Look inside the work box, you can add "intros," "outros" 32 sec parts before or after your first part, all using the "extend" button on the top right of the work box:
1) right click on the sample you want to extend
2)you will see Add Intro Before, Add Section Before, Add Section After, Add Outro After
3) left click the type of extension to your sample that you want to highlight that type of extension
4) modify your prompt to reflect what you want in the next part
5) click on the "custom lyric" bullet to highlight it, and enter in the part of your lyric you want in the forthcoming extension
6) left click the "extend" button on the top tight and wait a few minutes.
7) choose between the two offerings or start over if you like neither...
8) repeat, rinse, adding an intro and outro, etc......

Interesting Michael. Have you presented Udio with lyrics to a tune you’ve already written to compare how the two sound? No, but I might eventually try that. But feeding it an orphaned lyric, that's more likely in the near future. I have too many of those. I'll use Lalai's online stem creation as well so as to have more control over adding effects to specific stems.

Here is something I put together yesterday, using William Wordsworth's "I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud" as the lyric. This creates very strong prosody, as does most classical poetry for it's strong, pronounced meter. Many extensions later I had an unwieldy beast which I then tamed in FL Studio. This is alt universe John Lennon type of singer, joins the Moody Blues, who after "Days of Future Past" decide to do another orchestral outing: https://soundcloud.com/michael-j-za...ium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharingYou might find it bombastic, but honestly, I could not do a better job writing a composition to the poem. It seems perfect, to me, as a composition. The recording less so. I could easily add a vocalist an octave up, in harmony w/the lower voice. But this does show that Udio WILL stick to custom lyrics you feed it. It is word for word, the Wordsworth poem... ************************************************************************************ I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud By William Wordsworth I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance. The waves beside them danced; but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed—and gazed—but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.
