Hi everyone......it's good to be back, again. We had a big year, but things are beginning to settle. Here is a new song...a bit of a statement song. As always, any and all comments are appreciated, and first impressions are most welcome. Thanks! -Tom "Trying"Words & Music by Tom Tognacihttps://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14499371Here, in this restless world, we drift apart Too many souls, today, are losing heart...... ...well, it's trying... when giving it your all while climbing up the walls putting up with all the crazy noise pretending boys are girls and girls are boys... ...Oh, I know, yes, I know... ...it's trying... when silenced out of fear There's nothing to hear, here Censoring free speech where it occurs when accusations turn to ugly slurs... oh, I know, yes, I know... ...it's trying You've heard this talk about the great re-set While Nero fiddles, he hopes we'll forget... ...that it's trying..., ...this building back better with smashing sledgehammers Throwing out the old for something new scrapping God and Country for this worldly view... ...oh, I know, believe me, I know... ...it's trying

Apropos theme and great singing and playing, Tom. I'm sure the concerns mentioned in your song will resonate for many. And where it all is headed, no one really knows. Even more trying.

Good one, Tom. I don't agree with everything that's in the lyrics, of course, but I'd have to say the ideas are put across very effectively and will resonate with those who see the world the same way. I'll just enjoy it as a well-crafted song that's a good listen. A touch of Dylan or Cat Stevens in your vocal delivery.

Tom, if answer your question above, I'm afraid your thread might degenerate into a political pie throwing contest in the old JPF tradition LOL. I see Tony is here, and he always keeps a fresh supply of pies at the ready.
I'll address one point though, as it relates to a line in the song that intrigues me. "Censuring free speech where it occurs"
The way you sang it, I took that to be a misspelling of "censoring," which is one of the things that I don't agree with - the complaint coming from the conservative side of the political divide that that they are somehow being silenced when I hear plenty of noise coming from that direction LOL. However, if you actually mean "censuring," I certainly agree that that happens, although I think it should because calling out nonsense and conspiracy theories is part of the debate (an increasingly necessary one) and an exercise in free speech in itself. On the other hand, I would agree that it is taken to ridiculous extremes mostly by those of a liberal persuasion obsessed with identity politics when they take offense at just about everything.

Tom,
I'm afraid you might be right, though most everything today both sides of the fence is sensationalized or dramatized. But I think you have more conviction in your statements this time around--a good thing.
Loved it!

Wow I was sure I commented
I liked the song and all, but thought that by appealing to one side only it becomes less "classic" and more of a period piece.
Not a bad thing because we are in the moment

Now this is how you write, sing, play and arrange a song...just a great song, Tom ,,and if it gets people talking/debating the lyric,,next thing you know, you've got a hit song.I'll leave the pros and cons to others..I just think you've written an excellent song
