The insanity of exercising the same poor judgement and expecting a different result,
often leaves us smiling awkwardly at fire flies and running, "Bare Feet In The Street"
~Nelson~

Bare Feet In The Street
by
MisterNelson

Verse
It’s 3 in the morning and I can’t sleep
There’s nothing to see on this old TV.
I just set here, staring at the screen.
It was another night out, wild as can be.
But ended up with the same old 3,
Loneliness, a stranger and me.

Chorus
I told myself time and time again,
This is no life… can’t you understand.
A promise made, then broken again.
Another stranger is in my bed.
I gotta go, I won’t turn around,
I started walking but I’m running, now.
And the only sound or sights to see,
Are the other lost souls, the other lost souls,
the other lost souls running bare feet in the street.

Verse
You gave your heart, I gave my word.
I broke it again and you kicked me to the curb.
Now, dry your eyes because I don’t deserve your tears.
It’s the price I pay, for fooling around,
I had your love but look what I’m left with, now.
Loneliness strangers and me.

Chorus
I told myself time and time again,
This is no life… can’t you understand.
Promises made, then broken again,
another stranger, in my bed.
I gotta go, I won’t turn around,
I started walking but I’m running, now.
And the only sound or sights to see,
Are the other lost souls running bare feet in the street.

Nelson, This song really gallops along. It races right along with those lost souls running bare feet in the street. The lyrics ring true and the vocal performance is what we've come to expect from you. I can tell you've put a lot of work and thought into the arrangement and mix. The guitar is impeccable to my ears. To make a long story short, you've got another good one here. It's ready for the stage and CD.

Write from your heart, not what you think others want to hear.

Nelson,

Good seeing you post another one. What I like most about your lyrics is that they are "real-life" and simple, yet not predictable. You also have a voice that is "just you." I enjoyed this song--I think some percussion could add some "feel" with this song, I would like hearing a couple of "rat-a-tats" with the abrupt stops with the music to better "shape" those breaks, which I think are cool. Very nice job Nelson!

I'm digging everything about this, Nelson - the super arrangement, cool change-up at the chorus, and your usual great vocal. Lyric is powerful too.

I agree with Eddie - you have your own unique sound and voice. What resonates particularly with me is your willingness to sing in the first person about folks who aren't heroes. To me, that is the main thing that powers your work.

What a good 'un you got here Nelson.
Your vocal could come up a tad though imo.
Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hey thanks Dan.
Yeah I like the pace and I don't know why but I'm so proud that it comes in under 3mins. 2min57sec to be exact. Strange thing to be proud of eh?
I am starting to think more about performing and writing songs that musicians would enjoy playing with me, if I ever decide to put a band together.

Like most everything I post this is over a year in the making and counting.
I can forgive myself for not being good at it but I couldn't forgive myself for not working hard at it and giving each song every opportunity to become a better song.

Thanks again Amigo

I like to say," I'm just a simple man, making simple music."

I agree with your percussion suggestion, maybe some of that Latin flavor.

Glad you enjoyed the piece. It was fun to work on.

There's this old saying. "Get in, where you fit in" but I never seem to fit in anywhere so I selfishly do what feels authentic.

Mr. Nelson. A powerful lyric and the change up in the music and pace between the verse and chorus had me nodding my head, tapping my feet and smiling broadly. Possibly my favorite of your's.

The process can be a bit arduous, at times but I'm very comfortable writing in the first person.

Because I emotionally put myself into the situations, I'm simply reporting on what I'm actually feelings, which lends authenticity to the character's feelings and reactions.

It's not fun at all but when it works, it moves folks and that I find extremely satisfying.
