If you could hear any artist covering any song, who would you pick to play what... and why? I don't even have a solid answer for this myself except to say I'd love to hear two totally different styles juxtaposed. That's why I always loved Marilyn Manson's version of Sweet Dreams.

Good question. I think that I am like you, in that I would like to hear that juxtoposition, like when Sly & The Family Stone covered "Que Sera, Sera" or when Dwight Yoakam did "I Want You To Want Me."
Maybe... Los Lobos doing "Purple Rain" by Prince. I think they could do a great job with that one. (But then, they do a great job with just about everything.)

Anthony I won't mention a specific artist or song but I wish some of our current country artists and maybe even a few of our current pop singers would do some of the older songs, classic and not so classic. Some of the older material is really worthwhile and some of the younger generation haven't heard what they're missing, but I believe that a large enough number of younger listeners would really take to it. The artist could obviously put their own style/spin on it but the melodies would really appeal to them. Infact, Randy Jackson said on American Idol last nite (and I totally agree with him on this) that he wishes contemporary artists would do some of the throw back songs and he mentioned Patsy Cline as an example. I forget his exact quote but he mentioned something about a gaping hole and there is a niche' for this type of opportunity. I have felt this way for years now. Best to you, Lynn

That's an interesting point, especially considering that "new" country is so different from old country.

There is the Tribute Album of Webb Pierce recordings CAUGHT IN THE WEBB. Webb was the biggest selling Country Artist of the 50's and still sells today. Webb didn't write very much but had a nack of finding those great songs.

I'd like to hear Beyonce do one of Big Jim's songs.

I was gigging with the band last week and as usual people asked for requests...... like Rod Stewart....Meatloaf.....Neil Diamond...Nazareth etc etc etc. I try to oblige singing requests as often as possible to keep the punters happy......However one young lady asked if I could sing like Justin Beiber......SORRY I said.....not even on a bad day could I be that tone deaf......and after looking at my watch I added...are you a fan......you look much older than eleven....its past bed time....its after nine......I cannot keep an audience awake so late when they have elementary school the following day....GO TO BED NOW.....you are far too young to be in a pub anyway. The audience laughed and the lady now red faced asked for something more discerning/adult instead. We played a steely Dan song My Old School.
But hey I will look at my collection and see if there are any Timberlake, Beiber or Beyoncé stUFF....I can take a shot at....you never know.
PS I am not sure if Beyoncé could cover any of my songs....they have lots of words, proper tunes and are about adult things she might not understand.
