The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.
The theme of this song challenge is New Year. It could be about New Year's Resolutions, New Year's Eve, New Year's Eve party, the coming year etc. You don't have to specifically mention the words New Year but the song should suggest it to us.
Good luck and have fun!

Here's one from alittle back in time, still needs a popish melody so it can truly shine!!
“Resolutions” (progressive Chorus)(female vocal/sassy) (c)2010 Lynn Orloff
Another year is over But I ain’t lookin’ back You had my heart I will admit I’ll surely give you that Yeah baby you were usin’ me You didn’t treat me right Shame on you to break my heart It’s just not real polite Lift I’ve got some resolutions, infact I got a list I thought you’d like to hear em’, they go somethin’ like this…
I resolve to never fall for someone just like you I resolve you’ll never hear me singin’ out the blues Yes I resolve to uninvolve my heart from lovin’ yours Cause baby you can’t use my heart like some revolvin’ door
Don’t think that I’m a losin’ sleep Cause you ain’t worth the zzzz’s I’m gonna’ dot my i’s this time I’ll even cross my t’s Yeah I won’t make the same mistake I'll take my sweet ole' time The word is out, I’m fancy free The guys have formed a line Lift I’ve got me resolutions, so many there’s a list I’ll read em' to you one by one, they go somethin’ like this…
I resolve to tell the world that you’re not worth the time I resolve to not forget that sometimes love is blind Yeah I resolve to have some fun and when I’m done have more Cause baby you can’t use my heart like some revolvin’ door
Bridge Don't even try to win me back You're sure to get the boot You'll find my will is stronger now Just call me resolute
(Cause) I resolve to listen to the wisdom of my friends Who told me that I shouldn’t even look at you again Yeah it’s goodbye, good riddin’s, this time I’m really sure Cause baby you can’t use my heart like some revolvin’ door

I was intrigued to read this fact recently on an e-card site: "In the United States, more people are born on October 5 than on any other day throughout the year. Incidentally, October 5 is 9 months after New Year's Eve…" That fact led to the...well... birth of this lyric. Donna OCTOBER FIFTHV1 Oh good, it’s New Year’s Eve again Adrenalin is flowing Let’s wander up to Angelo’s To get the party going Ladies there are thrilling Better yet they’re willing Pre-chorus Especially after midnight When a toast or two or ten Will lead to supple teamwork And we’ll propagate again Chorus So rally round And do your stuff Don’t stop until I cry ‘Enough!’ Swim hard for evolution It’s an elegant solution And the harvest will be plenty if We’re aiming for October fifth V2 I know 12 months is long to wait For tadpoles primed for racing But we’ve a busy night ahead It’s quite a task you’re facing Though as well as being pleasant It’ll keep the species present Pre-chorus I’ve kept you earning interest Didn’t spend in dribs and drabs Darwin would approve of us That’s why I’m keeping tabs Chorus So rally round And wriggle tails First to land Result in males Swim hard for evolution It’s an elegant solution The harvest will be plenty if We’re aiming for October fifth Bridge Don’t worry lads No spermbank for you I do direct deposit The species needs more girls and boys More daddy’s pride and mommy’s joys Chorus So rally round And do your stuff Don’t stop until I cry ‘Enough!’ Swim hard for evolution It’s an elegant solution And the harvest will be plenty if We’re aiming for October fifth © 2012 Donna Devine
