DICKEL, STRAIT & JONES Kurt Fortmeyer/Jeff Batson Dad Zone Music ASCAP/Hi-Value Music ASCAP She's drawn here most every night Like a moth to a neon light Memories burnin' way too bright She's missing her old man She never orders wine or beer And if you ask her why she comes in here She'll tell you it's the atmosphere And three friends who understand A bottle and a jukebox make her feel at home Tennessee sippin' whiskey and classic country songs Jack is good Merle is great but that ain't what she wants She loves the Georges Dickel Strait and Jones Her daddy played the radio All night trucking coast to coast When he'd get home he'd drink a toast And she'd crawl up in his lap She remembers how the whiskey smelled And all the stories he would tell They sang his favorite songs and she almost felt Like she was with him in that cab A bottle and a jukebox make her feel at home Tennessee sippin' whiskey and classic country songs Jack is good Merle is great but that ain't what she wants She loves the Georges Dickel Strait and Jones She'll have a round of what he used to drink before that heart attack And play the guys who sing the songs that bring her daddy back Jack is good Merle is great but that ain't what she wants She loves the Georges Dickel Strait and Jones She loves the Georges Dickel Strait and Jones

Hi Kurt,
There's a lot of good things to like about this song. Really good story and I think the bridge is killer! All the best!-Dana Thanks, Dana! We spent more time going over the vocals yesterday than we spent on the whole recording the first day that we worked on it. Joe's fiddle parts in the bridge (and throughout the song) slay me.

Stevie Thanks, Stevie! I love this kind of music. Too bad it's "too country" for country radio.

I already sent the previous version to someone who is pitching to George for his next project. I should probably give him the updated (new & improved) version. I don't think he'd cut it, but he might appreciate it.

Hey Kurt, this is one of the best I've heard around here. Super job, no nits needed. Absolutely loved it, this traditional country market has taken a hit (no pun intended), but there is still room for traditional country if it's good--this'n is my friend! (pitch it with that attitude--the confident people get listened to more than the sheep)

Once we got onto the dead dad thing, we were rolling. Thanks for checking it out.

Good stuff as everyone has talked about. The recording is super top notch, too. I am sure you are proud of this one. Really catchy lines in the chorus.

I can't take credit for the recording of this. I just did the writing and the singing. Pat Lassiter (Tracy Lawrence's bass player) handled the recording/production chores. I'm thinking about having him produce my next record. He's awesome, and awesome to work with. Thanks for checking it out, Kevin.

Well Kurt, this is the 3rd time I have tried to comment on this one. Each of the previous times, my message simply disappeared and i was returned to the main thread of the forum. Gonna ty again!
What I said the two previous times was : Would you settle for a simple "This is a dang fine song and should be on the radio?". That's all I gotta say but I say it with full conviction! Hope 2013 is a fantatsic year for you!

Alan Thanks, Alan! It is getting a little airplay, just not on mainstream "country" stations.
