I am not sure what you mean by "sold a song." Songwriters do not sell songs. They get publishing deals.

Wow..Congrats Brother Nite! That's about $20-more than I've made monthly at it!
But those micro-checks DO fell like Major Victories, considering what a Tough Business the Music World actually IS...
Congrats, Amigo...Each Check means "Validation"--
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Congrats! How does that work then? Is it gone forever? Can you still perform it if you wanted? Do they own it outright and told you it was for one thing only to find out in a week it's being used in a t.v. ad for a fast food chain and you could've put another zero or 2 on that $30?
Awesome anyway, just curious...
Dan

Hey Lynn, Hehehehehhe....;) Hey Stan, cheers Bud, hopefully one day I can wallpaper the studio with micro-checks ! Hey Coalminer, audiomicro.com is a micro licencing site, so they've allowed the song to be used non-exclusively for a set peroiod of time ( most probably a year ) and a limited number of copies, I think from memory under 100 or under 1000. It's mainly used for small projects such as corporate videoes, high school student films, or local advertising etc. So yeah, I still own it and it can be "re-sold" to as many clients that want it. And yeah, a few extra zero's would be nice at some point. cheers, niteshift

Any achievement is good no matter how small,
Trouble is you may have Fxxxxd up your chance of
making some decent bread with that song.
I don't think they are publishers as such.
As time goes buy you would probably re write
the song, and if so your hands would be tied.
The only deal worth signing to is a Record Deal
or single song Publisher Deal.
You would never recoup your time and effort
with this lot.
There are professionals out there, making albums of sound
effects anything from 5 seconds to 30 seconds generally.
they rarely require vocal songs, just instrumental.
So it's not really selling a song, it's just a riff.
a small musical interlude,
Still if that's considered a success, it's well done
Best Wishes any How

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.
In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.

Hi Cheyenne, Not sure what “tune” Nite sold, but I would guess it was an instrumental created for background music in film/TV with no intention of ever developing it into a song with lyrics. So I doubt Nite is considering a record deal down the road via a song publisher/ record company for this track. I could be wrong. I don’t know much about Audiomicro, but I imagine it’s a music library that can act as a publisher as well (similar to AudioSpark). John

The tune in question was Synthetic Salsa Blue , a wolrd fusion instrumental. It's a real song. It has verses, choruses and even a bridge, but no vocalist. I don’t know much about Audiomicro, but I imagine it’s a music library that can act as a publisher as well (similar to AudioSpark).
John Right again, it's an audio library for micro-licencing for small projects. Terms and conditions are here . And I suppose it's a "new business model" in that it retains a publishers share of the initial sale. It doesn't however retain PRO publishing royalties. They remain with the song writer should the tune be publicly broadcast, and be subject to Q sheets. I am not sure what you mean by "sold a song." Songwriters do not sell songs. They get publishing deals. The only deal worth signing to is a Record Deal
or single song Publisher Deal.

a small musical interlude, I'd have to disagree. I think both opinions expressed are at least 10 to 20 years out of date. I've sold songs before. For less than 99 cents, where one person ( or e few ) get to hear the tune. I think I'd rather sell them for $14.08 cents each, where the listening audience is multiplied by hundreds, and perhaps that might encouage more interest in the works from about 3% of any listening audience which really likes them on a random basis. This tune is non-exclusive, so therefor it cannot be used in an exclusive ( single use ) situation where the current licencing fees start at over $1k. That's Ok, a bird in the hand as they say..... the odds of placing such songs are huge, and there's always the option of writing more on spec to the demands of errant musical directors. I really do think that the whole "get a song publishing deal" is very out dated and very out moded. The only one who will push your music foward is yourself. Heck, it may only be for $14.08, but that's a hell of a lot better than letting a song sit in a dusty shelf in a bankrupt publishers office. Just my thoughts.... cheers, niteshift

"This tune is non-exclusive, so therefor it cannot be used in a buyout situation where the current licencing fees start at over $1k"Hey Nite! Pertaining to the term "buyout"... With many libraries “buyout” means the client can use the track on his/her projects for eternity without further licensing fees (lifetime synchronization use). However, this track can still be licensed to other clients with a buyout available to them as well (same terms). I just had a buyout from Audio Sparks on a piano track of mine, but it’s still available for licensing from Audio Sparx to other clients. In fact, when a track is sold on Audio Sparx it becomes a featured track for licensing. I sense this is the same definition of “buyout” for Audiomicro. John

I stand corrected John ! Yes, I'm mixing the terms. I'm confusing it with "exclusive use" i.e. no other party for a set period of time, where the big dollars are. Will edit accordingly. I should be so lucky. cheers, niteshift

Meaning the composer can sell his songs personally, but can't have the songs in another library. Anyway, having someone think enough of your music to pay for it is a real success - congrats! Most expect it for free today. Take care, John

Congrats on the song mate... kinda passing me up on the rate...after 7 years I've gotten about 70 bucks in downloads...but at 3 cents a shot, there is some level of success here. tiz like a quote from a Canadian sax player I knew; "this music stuff is great...you can make hundreds of dollars doing it" Or take the chorus from my hit county song I never finished because it was too real "Playin in this honky tonk band, Lord it's a killin me, Makin fifty dollars a night, And drinking up sixty three" tom

Hey Tom,
Long time mate ! Good to see you.
You've got to finish up that song, what a brilliant few lines. It certainly resonates with the poor musos, and I'll be sure to buy a copy to bump up your averages when you put it out there.
cheers, niteshift
