Hi all, I thought it might be time that we start a thread that helps to promote and support the individuals using this site who use YouTube and Facebook. The reason I pinpoint these two sites is because of the "Subscribe" and "like" factor on each one. We all need a little bit of hype along the way, so how about we all post our Youtube and Facebook pages here so we can all subscribe or like them. To get the ball rolling here are mine: YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/NorthfieldUKFacebook: http://www.facebook.com/NorthfieldBandOfficialWhat are yours?

I don't understand Facebook. I have a facebook page for myself (Bill Robinson). Then they have Facebook pages you can create for different categories like Band Page. So I created a band page (Bill Robinson Music)from my regular page but there doesn't seem to be a direct link from my regular page to my band page. so I wind up having to put in two links. On my own website I have different pages and you can click them and move around. I only have to have one link. It's very confusing.
Colin's is a Band Page, Bob's is not. So what's the difference? I tried linking my soundclick site to my regular page and it said I had to have a band page.
James's link takes you to a welcome page instead of his wall. How did you create a welcome page? But there is no music on that page. I am confused.

Hi James:
I don't participate in Facebook, Twitter or any of those similar things. I write songs. I record my own songs and vocalizde them to the best of my limited ability.
Before I forget, I listened to a few of your collaborative songs and have to admit... you got pipes! Impressive work.
I was reading your post and conversation with "Sub" about doing demo and related vocalizing work. Just wanted you to know that you can take his words "to the bank." He's a straight shooter and knows of what he speaks. My point is: If and when you develop a cost breakdown for your services, I hope you'll let me know. I have an extensive catalog and would like some better quality demos. I write in several genres.
Regards,
Dave

Bill,
Yes it seems you are suffering the facebook blues. Don't worry at all.
You can choose to make a fan page or just use your personal facebook page.
I made my welcome page with an app called Static html. (Just type that into the facebook search box). An easier option would be to use the landing page by Social Guides as seen on Yann's page above.
The fan page is where people can "LIKE" your page. A personal account works differently but pretty much has the same outcome if people subscribed to you. However with that option they will see things you do day to day rather than just your music.
As you see I have a welcome page which shows a video. That's what I wanted people to see rather than MP3 music. We have a music tab on the left if fans want to here our music. The music tab can be added by Bandcamp, CD baby, Reverbnation or Band Page.
That should help you to start.
Feel free to ask any other questions.
James
Dave,
Thanks for your kind words. I will be looking into the services in a little more detail in the new year so i'll keep you posted.
Cheers
James

I don't like FB although have a page there and sometimes have chats with friends from UK and US, I prefer Linkedin.com am a member of 8 groups there and post there almost every day. But Youtube...wow! It's my favorite site ever, sorry, have no time to make a proper page there.

There is another way to network and reach new audiences. Like 200,000 in one performance. This TEDx clip shows how it works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3fUM3SjlfAI never cared for FB or Twitter either. But give http://plus.google.com a try, and check out the 'hangout' feature.

Hi Joice, I left a very well deserved comment on your YouTube video. Just checked out my own YouTube video and was pleasantly surprised to find over 11,000 visits, and that it's on page one for key words "Beaumont Rag Guitar". That song is covered by the likes of Chet Atkins and other famous guitar pickers. To be on page one with the "big boys" is an honor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgEZY0ELOzU

ENR,
So you have a page up to do the same thing. I guess it might help get things going if you're at zero, but is there a threshold you try to reach by doing this, or is it just a vanity thing? I am curious?

Fantastic idea. I'll post mine and work my way down through the list tonight. I'll also keep checking back. The whole "likes" and "fan" bit on Facebook, reverbnation, youtube, etc is a pain in the **$ but it's best to get on top of it. I never payed much attention until we began to climb the reverbnation charts. It boosts the EPK and I was approached by a couple of different folks for a couple of different opportunities as a direct result of the reverbnation rank. Everything is also tied in together, so the more FB likes---the higher goes your rank on Reverbnation. It takes so much energy to drive these seemingly unimportant numbers up but it can be a benefit in more ways than one. Thanks and all the best! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jaye-Drew/279336738745441?ref=hlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaS7fhctCDA&feature=plcp

It seems like music people today rarely support one another. It feels like everyone is out for himself or herself.

Jim,
So be the change you want to see. Go out and support people in various ways and then make a post and update us on how many folks you helped out each day and how you did it. It will set a great example, you'll be helping people just as you wish others would do and you'll be showing how you are walking the walk. You could keep it within this board as many folks here would appreciate feedback and likes when appropriate etc. I will even create a post for you to use as an update.. what do you think?

First you've got to support yourself. That's done by hard work, mostly work at improving your art and craft. Working on skills, refining your taste and your perceptions, assessing your productions both by yourself and with others.
Most people I see get it backwards, they network and promote before they have something networkable and promotable. Here'a a quick story. Years ago before the internet (grandpa!!! wasn't there always an internet?) I was part of a band in Nashville called White Crow. We were being produced by a famous artist and producer. He set up two showcases at the Bluebird. We had a song written for us by Harlan Howard. The showcases had John Prine and a slew of some of the biggest movers and shakers in town. We got major buzz. But...we didn't have any recordings. Our producer never got around to getting us into the studio. So the result was that there was no result.
I'd recommend not making a serious network push without seriously good stuff to push. I mean stuff that a lot of people like...and not just friends on a music website. There's a danger in that. You get a "group think" that can, for example, like songs because they like the songwriter and not like songs because they are not the flavor of the day FOR THAT GROUP. How many songwriters here, for example, would not press "like" for Taylor Swift? And, how many would think she bought her way into the music biz? Well, yes, either you or your backers need major money to get that big...but go ahead and read my first paragraphs again. If she couldn't touch a bunch of kids, she wouldn't have gotten anywhere. Believe it or not...at your peril. LOL.
Bless y'all!! Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

My marketing alias tells me that pushing product through networking has never really worked, it's a pull medium, where the best you can hope for is to draw people in with solid work, like Mike says, and an appealing attitude. It's a golden rule thing, like so much else..
